This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver posy holder has a conical shaped form onto three legs. The surface of the holder has a frosted finish and is embellished with bright cut engraved Greek Key fret band ornamentation in addition to stylized leaf motifs. The body is further ornamented with an applied knop encircled with bead ornamentation flanked with a scalloped border and collet set cabochon turquoises. The upper portion of this impressive example of Victorian silverware is encompassed with a protruding undulating band accented with further collet set turquoise alternating with a swagged chain articulating from ring loops. The upper rim is embellished with a large applied bead decorated border. The vessel terminates with a bright cut engraved layered leaf texture to an applied ball motif. This exceptional antique Elizabethan sterling seal top spoon* has a pear-shaped bowl to a faceted stem. The rounded bowl of this impressive antique silver spoon is plain and unembellished, apart from the feature assay mark. The faceted stem terminates with a knopped circular seal matrix/die bearing the initials 'SPSW'. The knopped terminal and bowl of the spoon retain the original gilding. Such 16th century examples in this condition are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. * Seal top spoons became popular in England in the later 16th and 17th centuries. NOTE: After surviving the Great Fire of London, the records at the London Assay office were destroyed by fire in 1681; their catalogues and documentation began again in 1697. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Italian silver sterling jug. This exceptional antique Italian sterling silver jug has an oval paneled, flared form onto a circular domed foot. The surface of this antique jug is plain and unembellished, with a matte, subtly planished finish in keeping with the patination of a piece from this period. This impressive piece is fitted with an exceptional cast sterling silver scrolling handle, accented with a leaf design emanating from the thumbpiece, this leaf ornamentation comprises the upper terminal. The circular foot is encircled with a band of embossed bead decoration. This impressive antique silver jug has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as sterling standard silver (925/1000). Patination or Patina is a subtle coloration or tarnish which forms on the surface of some metals, produced by oxidation or other chemical processes. A good patina proffers an aesthetically pleasing look. Condition This antique silver jug is a very good gauge of silver and exceptional quality for its type. The jug is in exceptional presentation condition. Italian hallmarks struck to the surface of the jug and rim of the foot are all very clear. The two cylindrical shaped oil containers are conjoined and both have tight fitting covers mounted with crosses. The oil containers have engraved initials OC and SC probably denoting oil and incense which would have been used in the baptismal ceremony. The identical lids too are similarly marked to ensure that these are not mixed up. The bulbous knops are each plain and unembellished. The plain tapering handpiece is embellished with applied interlacing designs to the upper portion. The shaft of this silver Torah pointer has a stranded twist design, to an undulating circular collar style knop. This lower knop terminates with an impressive hand, with its index finger pointed. The hallmarks struck to the handpiece of this exceptional silver Torah pointer include: Silver quality/purity mark: 84 (84 zolotniks*) City Mark: Moscow, Russia Maker's mark: ФВ (untraced) Such original Russian examples are becoming increasingly difficult to locate; due to their formation they do not stand the test of time. * 84 zolotniki is equivalent to 875/1000 or .875 standard silver NOTE: The Hebrew word yad (יד) translates to "hand" and is used while reading the Torah.
