19th C. Sterling Silver Wine Label "BRANDY" by Martin & Hall, Sheffield, 1897

About the Item

This is a solid, cast, English sterling silver wine label, marked BRANDY made by Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall, of Sheffield, in 1897 The label has a nice oval shape, with a curved profile to wrap around a decanter. The shape has a single incised line around its perimeter with the name; BRANDY engraved on it. The label has a good original interlocking link chain. This label is fully hall marked to the back. It weighs 9.4 gram.

    This is a good late 19th century pewter sauce or gravy boat with good reeded detail made by Walker & Hall of Sheffield, England with a full set of stamped marks to the base for the period. This sauce boat has a lovely rounded body with a single pouring lip, a double "C" cast loop handle and sits on an oval pedestal foot having reeded detail to the base rim. This piece has a lovely mellow patinated colouring only seen on old pewter. Various Walker & Hall manufacturers markings are stamped on the base of the foot with punched or impressed numbers "49" and "1021" also present.     Rare, very early George I period silver brandy/spirits warmer, Joseph Clare I, London, 1714. Wonderful, historically interesting 308 years barware piece. Classic circular tapering form with a shaped base, heavy solid silver with a beautifully turned oak handle. Fully hallmarked on the side of the body Period initials on the bottom of base N E M Measurements: 3.32 inches in diameter, 5.25 inches to the to of handle, 2.13 inches height of vessel. 1714 was the year George I ascended the throne, making this an interesting, very early piece of Georgian silver. Excellent piece in very good condition commensurate with age. Beautiful old patina on the silver and the fine oak handle.
