About the Item

When the Hermès women wear artistic director Bali Barret invited one of the most prominent and influential designers from the East - Rei Kawakubo (Comme des Garçons) - to share her vision for one of the most prestigious luxury fashion House from the West, it ended with two exciting "Comme des Carrés" capsule collections of the iconic scarf. Issued in limited edition, the first collection named "Black and White" was exclusively available in the Comme des Garçons stores in Aoyama-Tokyo, New York and Paris. While the other one named "Color" was launched at the Dover Street Market retail venues in London and Tokyo. From the Spring-Summer 2013 collection, this limited edition Hermès x Comme des Garçons "Quadrige" silk twill "carré" scarf is truly collectible. Purchased at the London Dover Street Market, the scarf is new-never worn in its original Hermès dotted box collaboration (see pictures 2, 12 & 13). Created by Pierre Péron and first issued in 1973, "Quadrige" featured four intertwined horse heads. Through Rei Kawakubo's lens, the original design is adorned with a black and light silver grey polka dots pattern throughout. Kawakubo declared to the press : “During this joint project, rather than being guided by the idea of the scarf as it is worn, I became interested instead in the beautiful ‘artworks’ that the designs on Hermès carrés represent, and I sought to change them by adding elements. By combining them with abstract images, we have transformed the Carré and created an unique object.” Worn or framed, there is no doubt that this collector unexpected fusion belongs to the large family of Hermès scarves true classics !
