A fine set of a six court attendants as in the Forbidden City of Beijing, elegantly dressed in a Green & Red Daopao – a traditional men’s formal attire from the Ming Dynasty dated 1368-1643 A.D. – with glazed robes and Red Pigment remains in their hat and belts. They stand in an honorary posture atop a red plinth, some with orifices in their hands, where spirit objects were placed to comfort or satisfy the deceased. The heads are detachable, as often seen on the larger figures from this period.
They are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, and Certificate of Expertise by Jean-Yves Nathan - a leading authority specialized in Far East Archaeology from the CEDEA (The European Confederation of Art Experts).
Burial figurines of graceful dancers, mystical beasts, and everyday objects reveal both how people in early China approached death and how they lived. Since people viewed the afterlife as an extension of worldly life, these figurines, called mingqi, sometimes referred as “spirit utensils” or “vessels of ghosts” disclose details of routine existence and provide insights into belief systems over a thousand-year period.
The Ming dynasty was the ruling dynasty of China – then known as the Empire of the Great Ming – for 276 years (1368–1644 AD). Common name: Genpachi (Genpachiro); go Shinmyo (from 1707), Baio (from 1707), Hogetsudo (from Genbun era, 1736-41), Tanchosai and Bunkaku (both from Enkyo era [?], 1744-8). Ukiyo-e painter, print artist and innovative print publisher, also author and illustrator early in his career. Studied haikai poetry under Tachiba (Shogetsudo) Fukaku (Sen'o, 1662-1753). Said to have been influenced by the work of Moronobu. and Kiyonobu., and his earliest dated work is a copy of Kiyonobu I's Illustrated Book of Courtesans of 1700. published by Kurihara Choemon in the eighth month of 170a. From 1703 to 1711 he designed illustrations for at least 22 ukiyo-zoshi novels and puppet theatre playbooks, notably three works also written by him that parodied Tale of Genji. In the Hoei and Shotoku eras (1704-16) Masanobu designed o-oban prints of beautiful women, horizontal oban sumizuri-e 'parody pictures' (mitat-e) and actor prints...

An 18th century Chinese Porcelain Famille Rose Mandarin 3-Piece vase Garniture Set. A status symbol between the 17th and 19th centuries, most garniture sets have by now been damaged or broken up with the individual pieces sold off. Few complete sets now exist, and even fewer survive in their original state, which makes this beautifully painted set of three Chinese Porcelain Famille Rose vases so much more special. With mandarin orange and gilt unusually bold and swooping dragon handles, each delicately decorated vase is completed with a lid seating a gloriously pompous foo dog. The bodies are decorated with hand painted famille rose flowerpot cartouches, as well as, chirping birds, and banded flowers and vines.
The exquisite hand painted tastefully colored floral displays each with their own hand painted vase creates a freshness and inspires within us the IDEA for further additions of fresh flowers within the home. One of the porcelain, three (3) piece garniture set, is smaller and has a variation of banded colors around its fluted foot, lending just the right amount of visual variation to this gorgeous trio.
