Antique Shan (Tai Yai) Jambupati Buddha Image
Located in Point Richmond, CA
Antique Shan (Tai Yai) Jambupati Buddha Image, wood, lacquer and gold leaf, Konbaung Empire (1752-1885) A crowned style that displays Northern Thai iconography merged with the aesthetic of Burmese rule in the region. The figure is depicted in the popular Theravada seated position of padmasana, (interlocking legs position) and the hand mudra in bhumisparsa (earth touching) wherein the feet are souls  up, the fingers of the right hand extend beyond the right shin and the left hand palm up resting above the lap. Remnants of the leaf-like kirita crown remain.  The image is dressed in Burmese royal costume with thayo rolled lacquer relief decoration modeled into cuffs, epaulettes, knee pads and a detailed “U” shaped necklace covering the chest. There is also a lappet of clothing between the legs draping down toward the base. The figure is seated upon a tall and waisted throne pedestal having rows of lotus petal grooves on the diagonal portions . The  base and body are carved from one solid piece of hard wood. All covered in black lacquer with thayo lacquer details, red pigment for the lips and gold leaf overall. The Jambupati style Buddha illustrates the tale of the Buddha’s life when he came across the arrogant King Jambupati, a king who terrorized his subjects and who lacked humility and compassion for his people. The Buddha on meeting the King asked that he forsake his evil ways and instead practice kindness to his fellow man. Ignoring the Buddha’s request, the King continued to terrorize the people. The Buddha then in his efforts to change the King of his evil ways, one day magically appeared to him in resplendent royal attire. King Jambupati was in awe of the Buddha’s appearance prostrated himself in obeisance and from that day onward accepted the Buddhist precepts. In Southeast Asian countries like Burma, where rulers have very high if not semi-divine status, tales of this type, reinforced the need for the leader to worship the Buddha, the King of Kings. Condition: Heavy deterioration of the underside of the base as well as the interior portion of the crown, other losses include crown flanges, the crown spire, earrings, the tip of the left thumb, one base corner edge, rolled lacquer losses and general wear of the gold leaf surface, all commensurate with age and wear. Measuring: 22.25 in. high x 8.75 in. wide x 7.75 in. deep(56.5cm x 22.2cm x 29.7cm). Weight: 10.8 lbs. Age: Late 18th century. Provenance: Lark...

It is an ornament or figure, especially one placed in a guest room. An okimono may be a small Japanese carving, similar to but larger than a netsuke. Unlike the netsuke, which had a specific purpose, the okimono is exclusively decorative and was displayed in the tokonoma. During the Meiji period, many okimonos were made for export to the West. Meiji Period This is an era of Japanese history that extended from October 23, 1868 to July 30, 1912.The Meiji era was the first half of the Empire of Japan, when the Japanese people moved from being an isolated feudal society at risk of colonization by Western powers to the new paradigm of a modern, industrialized nation state and emergent great power, influenced by Western scientific, technological, philosophical, political, legal, and aesthetic ideas. As a result of such wholesale adoption of radically different ideas, the changes to Japan were profound, and affected its social structure, internal politics, economy, military, and foreign relations...

1940s Moroccan Brass Tray Platter 23 in. Geometric and a Star of David Design
Located in North Hollywood, CA
A pished Moroccan brass tray is a stunning piece of traditional craftsmanship that showcases the rich artistic heritage of Morocco. It is meticously handcrafted by skilled artisans who specialize in metalwork and imbue each tray with intricate designs and meticous attention to detail. The tray typically features a circar shape, with a slightly raised rim to prevent items from sliding off. One of the distinguishing features of a pished Moroccan brass tray is its exquisite engraving geometric design. The artisans skillfly carve intricate patterns, geometric motifs, or elaborate floral designs onto the surface of the tray. These designs are often inspired by traditional Moroccan architecture, Islamic art, or nature, and reflect the ctural and artistic influences of the region. The geometric design with a six pointed star in the center. The six pointed star meaning: A 6-pointed star is also known as the Star of David, Magen David, or Hexagram. It is a common symb with historical and ctural significance in various contexts. Here are a few of its associations: 1) Judaism: The Star of David is one of the most recognizable symbs of Judaism. Its origins in Jewish tradition are debated, but it gained prominence as a Jewish symb in the 17th century. 2) Symbic Meanings: In Jewish tradition, the Star of David can have various symbic interpretations. One common interpretation is that the triangle pointing upward represents God's relationship with humanity, while the triangle pointing downward represents humanity's connection to the Earth. Together, they symbize the harmonious relationship between the divine and the earthly. 3) Historical Context: The symb's historical usage predates its association with Judaism. It has been found in various ctures and religions around the world for centuries. In some cases, it was used as a protective amet. However, the Star of David's connection to Judaism has become its most well-known and widely recognized meaning. 4) Ctural and Artistic Uses: The Star of David is often used in Jewish art, jewelry, and decorative items. It's also used as a decorative motif in architecture and design. Remember that symbs can have different meanings to different people and ctures. The Star of David, with its six points, has a rich and complex history that spans various aspects of religious, ctural, and historical significance. A round pished tray in this style serves both as a functional item for serving food and drinks with grace and style, and as an exquisite decorative piece to adorn homes, showcasing the artistry and ctural heritage of Morocco and its surrounding regions. The metal is cut into the desired shape and then hammered or pressed to create the shallow depression of the tray. Traditional techniques such as repoussé (hammering from the reverse side) or chasing (hammering on the front side) may be employed to shape the metal. 3) Engraving: The surface of the tray is often decorated with intricate engravings or etchings. Skilled artisans use chisels, gravers, or other specialized tos to create fine details and elaborate patterns. 4) Surface Treatment: After the main decorative work is complete, the tray may undergo surface treatments to enhance its appearance. Japanese antique appreciation stone/penis-shaped stone/strange stone
Located in Sammu-shi, Chiba
We have a unique Japanese aesthetic sense. And only we can introduce unique items through our purchasing channels in Japan and the experience we have gained so far, in such a way that no one else can imitate. This is a stone carved in the image of an old Japanese male genitalia. There is a possibility that it was a natural stone that had been carved by the running water of a river for a long time, but it is more likely that it was carved artificially. In Japan, objects in the shape of male and female genitalia have been made for a long time. The materials used are stone and wood. In the case of stone, some are made from 3,000 yen to 4,000 years ago. At that time, it was used in ceremonies to pray for the prosperity of descendants. In the case of this stone, it was probably dedicated to shrines and village shrines in hopes of prosperity of descendants. This stone is believed to be from before the Edo period. Because two types of rocks are mixed, the color contrast is beautiful. I prepared the pedestal. Also, there are some shallow cracks, but there is no need to worry about breaking the stone. Wooden penises...

China Extra Large Natural Marble Stone "Painting" Magnificent Mountain Peak
Located in South Burlington, VT
This Chinese extraordinary natural marble stone painting of a mountain range in green and white colors is called a dream stone Shih-hua. It is a huge monumental masterwork of nature. Totally natural. Dimensions: Hardwood frame: 62.5 inches tall and 88 inches length Site: 54.5 inches tall and 80 inches length This thin marble stone painting is approximately 3/8 inch thick and is cut from a large slab of rough material revealing a unique, incredible pattern in soft green and white colors. This unique work of art was from historic Dali marble found in the Cangshan mountains of western China. These mysterious mountains, unique in the world, are known for yielding incredible and fantastic natural landscaped works of art created over tens of millions of years from mineral inclusions that affected the process of ancient organic material which transformed into limestone and finally resulted in marble- a metamorphic hard stone. This art form is centuries of years old since the Ming dynasty. Dream stones became favored art in the west particularly since the 19th century when French collectors named them Pierres de reve. History of Green Flower dream stone paintings: “Green Flower” dream stone paintings known in China as Shui Mo or Chinese painting stone, were cut from stone found on Shuang Yang mountain in Dali moutains Captivating compositions, they might remind us of a long string of rugged mountain caps from a distance. These dream stones are cut from a scarce regional stone yielding notoriously “fuzzy” detailed paintings. To find examples possessing clear, contrasting detail like this one is indeed a rare find. Fine stone paintings like this example are rare as access to and availability of resource material diminishes. After a thin coating of wax is carefully applied to its surface to protect and reveal its beautiful subtle colors, this stone painting is signed upper right position with poetic verse and seal of an artisan who describes its majestic beauty as Provenance: Private Chinese collection, Yunnan, China. Reference: Dreaming of Dreamstones China’s Extraordinary Natural Stone Paintings, Schneible Fine Arts.
