This large advertising store display 'Nipper' dog was made by the Old King Cole Company of Ohio, and dates to approximately 1920 and done in a period Art Deco style. The sculpture is done entirely of a molded paper mache which has been hand painted with a white ground, and black accents with some gold finish on the collar. This RCA advertising store display has been restored at some time, as evidenced by the re-painting of the entire sculpture. There is some overall wear as presented in the photos and consistent with age and use,. This figural advertising 'Nipper' dog is clearly signed with a red paper label for the 'Old King Cole Company' inside the hind quarter with the crown logo. These store display Nipper dogs were done for several years for RCA, and the first ones were done in paper mache, and later done in fiberglass and the last renditions done in a molded plastic. The seated animal is in an attacking position, teeth bared, ears flattened, and paw extended to strike the ball.
The situation is skillfully captured, and the overall arrangement of materials and colors is harmonious.
The jade edging is interrupted at the front and back by black stripes in marble, and the panther has a very beautiful patina. The jade setting has different tones ranging from light to slightly richer.

Born in Santiago de Compostela (Spain) in 1901, son of Evaristo Rodriguez Bréa and Antonia Bonome Pérez, he worked very young in his father's humble cabinetmaking workshop. Little attracted by this job, when his father asks him what he wants to do: "sculptor" he answers.
He therefore entered, at the age of 13, in the religious imagery workshop of José Rivas, at the foot of this cathedral which he admired so much, then at the age of 18 in that of Enrique Carballido.
"Because he is so, so young, Bonome! Ridiculously young said a critic, who probably did not know that these years of apprenticeship, of real apprenticeship as an apprentice in a real workshop (a saint a day and strongly, for all the processions, all the chapels and all the devotees of the province) are each worth four years -at least- of study in an academy..." In 1924, he left for Madrid where he exhibited at the Galician Center, at the National Exhibition and then in La Coruña.
In 1925, at the Galicia Center in Buenos Aires he sold almost 30 of his works.
From 1926 to 1927 he exhibited in Barcelona, at the Venice Biennale then in Monza (Italy) where he met Pirandello, then in Havana.
