About the Item

Finn Juhl for France and Sons, '136' lounge chair, teak, fabric, Denmark, 1950s. This elegant, minimalist chair is designed by Danish master Fin Juhl. Crafted from rich teak wood, the frame showcases sleek, clean lines with gently tapered legs, offering a classic Scandinavian modern appearance. The curved backrest and armrests are subtly sculpted, giving the chair a sense of organic flow. The seat and back are upholstered in a grey which combines beautifully with the smooth teak. Finn Juhl (1912-1989), born in Denmark, planned on becoming an art historian when he was young. His father however decided it would be a better career move if he went to become an architect. After his architecture degree Juhl worked for ten years with Vilhelm Lauritzen. At the age of 33 Finn Juhl opened his own furniture design practice. In the 1940s he designed a number of creations that regenerated Danish furniture design, and broke with the established furniture tradition. Juhl is known as the one of the most important pioneers of Danish design. He was in fact the first Danish furniture designer to gain widespread international recognition. His work was vital to spreading the “Danish Modern” concept around the world. His designs are re-known for being exquisitely elegant, refined up until the smallest detail and extremely well executed. Kindly note that this item is in good, used condition.
