About the Item

Introducing a rare, vintage Model CH 25 chair by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Søn built in Denmark in the late 1950's. The CH25 lounge chair, like many of Hans J. Wegner’s other iconic designs, is clean and simple in it's distinctive shape. Featuring a newly upholstered seat and backrest in a fabulous caramel-colored, genuine Italian leather hide that perfectly offsets the solid oak frame this fully restored chair is a modern take on the classic, seminal chair. Among all furniture designers, Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007) is considered one of the most creative, innovative, and prolific especially amongst his Scandinavian counterparts. Wegner was part of the spectacular generation that created what is today referred to as the Golden Age of modern Danish design. Wegner began his apprenticeship with Danish master cabinetmaker H. F. Stahlberg when he was just 14 years old. Later on, he moved to Copenhagen and attended the School of Arts and Crafts from 1936 to 1938 before setting out as a furniture designer. The core of Wegner’s legacy is his focus on showing the inner soul of furniture pieces through a simple and functional exterior. Wegner’s background as a cabinetmaker gave him a deep understanding of how to integrate exacting joinery techniques with exquisite form. His aesthetic was also based on a deep respect for wood and its characteristics, and a vast curiosity about other natural materials that enabled him to bring an organic, natural softness to formalistic minimalism which are on full display in this truly iconic CH 25 chair. Carl Hansen opened his furniture workshop in Odense, Denmark in 1908 and soon became renowned for the exceptional quality of his work. In it's early days, the company produced bespoke furniture including everything from dining room sets to bedroom suites. As the company grew and times changed, however, it gradually began to produce smaller series of its most popular pieces. This combination of craftsmanship and rational series production soon became the firm’s hallmark and continues to set it apart to this very day. With it's fresh, hand-sewn leather upholstery, restored solid oak frame and new straps and batting this paradigmatic Model CH 25 chair is ready for a literal lifetime more of use. Perfect for both designers and collectors alike searching for an authentic, vintage and Danish-made model CH-25. With this CH 25 the devil is in the details and given it's authentic leather hide, hand-stitched seams and custom made seat back this chair is the very epitome of "one-of-a-kind" so when it's gone, it's gone forever. Make it yours today and add a piece of design history to your collection that is as comfortable as it is unique and visually stunning. ---Dimensions--- Width: 27 in / 68.58 cm Depth: 31 in / 78.74 cm Height: 28.25 in / 71.76 cm Seat Height: 14.5 in / 36.83 cm Arm Height: 21.5 in / 54.61 cm This iconic Model CH 25 Lounge Chair by Hans Wegner has recently undergone a comprehensive and transformative restoration process and we love the results! The solid oak frame has been painstakingly hand-sanded and refinished bringing the exceptional woodgrains back to their original color and luster and showing no deep scratches, stains or other damage whatsoever. The upholstery, redone in a rich caramel-colored, genuine Italian leather hide is in showroom condition. The seams were hand-stitched and the leather shows only the wear of a once living animal. Both the backrest and seat feature new support straps and batting for maximum comfort and longevity. This iconic CH 25 lounge chair is ultra-comfortable, structurally sound and ready for a lifetime more of use thanks to it's recent restoration. Please view all photos for details on this CH 25's current condition. We're limited on the amount of media we can post so additional photos and videos are available upon request.
