Beautifully painted in vivid tones of yellow-orange, mossy green, warm red and deep blue -- echoing the rich tones of the stained glass he employed -- this rare and gorgeous watercolor by Louis Comfort Tiffany was clearly painted to inspire and guide the design of one of his stained glass windows featuring the nasturtium flower. In the earliest years of his career in the decorative arts, Tiffany served as the primary designer for his firm, inspired by ancient Byzantine and Roman glass as well as the bounty of American flowers and trees to be found in his native Northeast.
