ABOUT: Lance Clayton’s aquatic, figurative photographs contain an attention to detail that leaves the viewer constantly discovering new information within them. His oblique compositions are a profusion of the quirky, the surreal, and the ambiguous, all of which are permeated by a haunting presence. Rather than presenting a factual reality, an illusion is fabricated to conjure the realms of our imagination. Clayton’s inspiration is primarily grounded in dreams, with references to notable artists such as Diane Arbus, George Hurrell, and Duane Michaels...

Chrysanthemum: Still Life Photograph of Yellow Flowers in Contemporary Pop Style
By Newbold Bohemia
Located in Hudson, NY
Modern still life photograph of yellow flowers on a black background with splattered paint details Digital C-Print, edition of 10 30 x 30 inches unframed Newbold Bohemia offers a playful selection of images with his FLOWr series. Bohemia made these compositions by carefully capturing the graceful drips and squirts of acrylic paint around a yellow chrysanthemum submerged in a water tank, which produced a mesmerizing arrangement of color, shape and form. The artist explains that with each image he seeks to “…create not only an image, but an entire world within my image.” Newbold Bohemia (born 1965, Evansville, Indiana) mainly creates photos, although his work shares as much in common with painting as it does photography. Rather than using the camera to record the world around him, Bohemia prefers to work against the journalistic nature of photography. He creates his own world from scratch. In his studio he arranges still-lifes, builds sets, hires actors, and lights the scene. After capturing the image he often further enhances the work through digital or mechanical manipulation before printing the final work. Although not formally trained as an artist, his work is heavily influenced by his education and work in psychology, marketing and graphic design. Visual organization and story telling are equally important to Newbold Bohemia, although one may take precedence over another is a particular body of work. His work often focuses on the everyday and mundane, as well as historical and societal references. Tension, conflict, and humor are often introduced to create new ways of seeing the world we think we know. Newbold Bohemia currently lives and works in Chicago. His award-winning work has been exhibited throughout the United States. He is currently represented by the seller based in Hudson, NY. The Robin Rice Gallery reserves the right to adjust this price depending on the current edition of the photograph. ABOUT: Every year, the gallery owner curates the show to best exemplify the 56 exhibited artists’ strengths and aesthetics, remaining cohesively linked by Robin’s extensive knowledge of her artists and of photography. “This is my favorite exhibit, even though it takes months to curate and a week to install,” says Robin. “It is my curatorial showcase.” From floor to ceiling, the walls of the gallery rooms are a mosaic of nearly a hundred photographs, their various sizes, color schemes and subject matter expertly laid out to fit together like the pieces of an eclectic puzzle. This year’s invitational image, “Beach Samba” by Patricia Heal, is a portrait of a woman in a large, orange-red sunhat, whose downward gaze obscures her face entirely. Blurring the line between photography and painting, the color palette and uniquely large grain pattern of the photograph is reminiscent of Georges Seurat’s pointillism...

The Robin Rice Gallery reserves the right to adjust this price depending on the current edition of the photograph. ABOUT: Victoria Goldman’s twenty-year-long fascination with Tarot has created a series of photographs based on the imagery and the mythology behind the ancient Tarot cards. Each image in the collection is inspired by and named after one of the 22 major archetypes of the Tarot. While photographing and teaching yoga and meditation in India, Hawaii, and throughout Europe, Goldman always made sure to carry a Tarot deck in her backpack. She views Tarot as a tool for personal elevation, helping her direct her focus and better understand her psyche. The collection’s soft focus and figurative emphasis is reminiscent of the work of Francesca Woodman or Julia Margaret Cameron, whom Goldman cites as personal artistic inspirations. The concept behind the exhibition was long thought-out; while some pieces date as recently as two months prior to the exhibition opening, others date as far back as 1999 or 2000. Shot primarily with vintage Polaroid and film with a twin lens Rolleiflex camera, the dark, moody, mythological images recall a classical tone that mirrors the timelessness of the cards themselves. The invitational image, entitled “Wheel of Fortune”, depicts a young woman in a glittering gown, her backside facing the viewer and her body positioned to spin a large carnival wheel hidden in the darkness of the photograph. The high-contrast nature of the image abstracts the gown, morphing the glitter on the dress into drops of light that shine through the dark air. The slender young woman in “Fortune” can be found in several of the collection’s photographs, depicting not just Lady Luck, as in the invitational image, but also the Emperor, the Devil...

Secret Recipe: Contemporary Figurative Photograph of 1950's Housewife in Pink
By Newbold Bohemia
Located in Hudson, NY
Contemporary figurative photograph digital C-print, edition of 10 30 x 20 inches unframed This contemporary c-print pictures a classic 1950's blonde housewife hand rolling dough in a pretty pink apron. The seemingly innocent imagery is given a sinister twist when one notices the rat poison tin in the left corner. The viewer is left wondering what the woman plans to do with poison. Will she prepare it in the dough for an unsuspecting husband or neighbor? About work: Photography as a medium has a dual character. Since its introduction, artists have used it to produce both art as well as document the world around them. For Chicago artist Newbold Bohemia, photography is a little bit of both: his photo series have documented real life issues, presented in staged, then manipulated images from his imagination. In his playful yet devious new series, “In an Ideal World,” Bohemia visualizes the story of a rebellious 1950s woman in the domestic world. Even the name Newbold Bohemia is a fabrication. The artist’s namesake serves as a reminder to create art dedicated to the pillars of Bohemian society: Truth, Beauty, Freedom and Love. All of these are present in his “In an Ideal World” series, set in a beautiful, idyllic version of the 1950s, where a blonde femme fatale-housewife comes to terms with life’s truths. As he captures her day to day chores, Bohemia comments on the not-so-idyllic reality of gender roles, and his heroine’s oppression and anger. Newbold Bohemia currently lives and works in Chicago. His award-winning work has been exhibited throughout the United States. Bohemia is currently represented by the seller based in Hudson NY. The World

Please allow two weeks for production. Shipping time depends on method of shipping. Price is subject to availability. The slender young woman in “Fortune” can be found in several of the collection’s photographs, depicting not just Lady Luck, as in the invitational image, but also the Emperor, the Devil, and even the World...

Pool Leaves
By Lance Clayton
Located in Hudson, NY
Color, Water, Abstract, pool, water, leaves, abstract, green, swimming, vibrant Listing is for UNFRAMED print. Inquire within for framing. Edition of 10. If the exhibition piece is sold or the customer orders a different print size, the photograph is produced upon purchase. Please allow two weeks for production. Shipping time depends on method of shipping. Price is subject to availability. The Robin Rice Gallery reserves the right to adjust this price depending on the current edition of the photograph. ABOUT: In this exhibition, Lance Clayton’s aquatic, figurative photographs contain an attention to detail that leaves the viewer constantly discovering new information within them. His oblique compositions are a profusion of the quirky, the surreal, and the ambiguous, all of which are permeated by a haunting presence. Rather than presenting a factual reality, an illusion is fabricated to conjure the realms of our imagination. The invitational image, “Swim”, is an illustrative shot of a man doing the butterfly stroke, his back to the viewer with arms powerfully extended across the frame, as if to embrace the open, infinite skies above him. The grainy quality of the piece is created using a dark room technique in which tissue is layered upon the photograph, creating an allover ethereal atmosphere reminiscent of Edward Steichen’s early work. Another image, “Rungs”, photographed in Lake Okeechobee, Florida, shows a rusty silver pool ladder descending into a vista of midnight blue water. The highlights and reflections in the water, however, resemble the night sky and thereby disorient the viewer’s perspective. The piece entitled "Kim, Orem, Utah” expresses some of Clayton’s more hauntingly sensual themes. The photograph displays a woman floating in a pool, her darkly lit face above the water and her serpentine body below. The sinister, yet lyrical, mood of the photograph is largely emblematic of the entire collection exhibited. Clayton’s inspiration is primarily grounded in dreams, with references to notable artists such as Diane Arbus, George Hurrell, and Duane Michaels...

Calla (Modern Still Life Photograph of Magenta Flower with Green Paint Details)
By Newbold Bohemia
Located in Hudson, NY
Modern still life photograph of magenta calla flowers on a black background with bright green acrylic paint details Digital C-Print, edition of 10 30 x 30 inches unframed Newbold Bohemia offers a playful selection of images with his FLOWr series. Bohemia made these compositions by carefully capturing the graceful drips and squirts of bright green acrylic paint around a magenta calla flower submerged in a water tank, which produced a mesmerizing arrangement of color, shape and form.
