ABOUT:
Marrying tasteful photographs with a common theme, Rice’s aesthetic captures the perfect image of summer. When one thinks of the summertime, a million different smells, sights, sounds, and memories manifest. The gallery does just that with its annual show, displaying a diversity of styles, themes, nuances, and artist techniques.
Rice curates 54 artists' handiwork with sensitivity and honesty. “This is my favorite exhibit even though it takes months to curate and a week to install. It is my curatorial showcase. I love the moment when the viewer is first drawn to an image,” says Rice. “Sometimes it’s indefinable; a moment when the viewer not only shares but also reconnects to an experience remembered.”
Rice’s forte is putting images together eclectic in form and style that all live together like her own personal collection. Crafted salon style from floor to ceiling; photographs of various sizes, colors, and shapes are juxtaposed like a puzzle that uniquely works. Refreshing beach landscapes and nostalgia of summertime recreation exist in an expert balance populating the gallery walls. The photographs are a feast for the senses, there is something for everyone; they pull you into an environment, an emotion, a familiar place.

- Pool LeavesBy Lance ClaytonLocated in Hudson, NYColor, Water, Abstract, pool, water, leaves, abstract, green, swimming, vibrant Listing is for UNFRAMED print. Inquire within for framing. Edition of 10. If the exhibition piece is sold or the customer orders a different print size, the photograph is produced upon purchase. Please allow two weeks for production. Shipping time depends on method of shipping. Price is subject to availability. The Robin Rice Gallery reserves the right to adjust this price depending on the current edition of the photograph. ABOUT: In this exhibition, Lance Clayton’s aquatic, figurative photographs contain an attention to detail that leaves the viewer constantly discovering new information within them. His oblique compositions are a profusion of the quirky, the surreal, and the ambiguous, all of which are permeated by a haunting presence. Rather than presenting a factual reality, an illusion is fabricated to conjure the realms of our imagination. The invitational image, “Swim”, is an illustrative shot of a man doing the butterfly stroke, his back to the viewer with arms powerfully extended across the frame, as if to embrace the open, infinite skies above him. The grainy quality of the piece is created using a dark room technique in which tissue is layered upon the photograph, creating an allover ethereal atmosphere reminiscent of Edward Steichen’s early work. Another image, “Rungs”, photographed in Lake Okeechobee, Florida, shows a rusty silver pool ladder descending into a vista of midnight blue water. The highlights and reflections in the water, however, resemble the night sky and thereby disorient the viewer’s perspective. The piece entitled "Kim, Orem, Utah” expresses some of Clayton’s more hauntingly sensual themes. The photograph displays a woman floating in a pool, her darkly lit face above the water and her serpentine body below. The sinister, yet lyrical, mood of the photograph is largely emblematic of the entire collection exhibited. Clayton’s inspiration is primarily grounded in dreams, with references to notable artists such as Diane Arbus, George Hurrell, and Duane Michaels...Category
