This is an exceptional brooch, created by the iconic jewelry house of Cartier, back in the 1970. This brooch was carefully sculpted in three dimensions in the shape of a mythical dragon. Has been crafted with spiky patterns in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with highly textured finish. It is embellished with four natural earth mined gemstones, such rubies and emeralds. It is fitted at the reverse, with a hinged pin bar and a mechanical lock to wear as a brooch. This is a great statement piece of jewelry and we are sure will stimulate great conversations. This mythical animal can be exhibited as a sculpture, since stand alone in their claws.
The Dragon & His Year
This mythical animal symbolizes power, good fortune, and strength and is associated with auspicious traits like intelligence, ambition and charisma. Historically linked with imperial power, Chinese emperors considered themselves descendants of dragons, emphasizing the dragon's esteemed position. The Year of the Dragon holds immense significance in the Chinese zodiac, repeating every 12 years. And this year’s Chinese Lunar New Year, occurring Feb. 10, follows the Year of the Rabbit, with Dragon. In contrast to the other eleven animal signs (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig) in the Chinese zodiac, Dragon is the only legendary creature. Historically linked with imperial power, Chinese emperors considered themselves descendants of dragons, emphasizing the dragon’s esteemed position. European legends portray dragons as demonic, malevolent beings guarding treasures to be conquered by heroic kings. The persistent malevolent connotations of the dragon in Western cultures can be directly attributed to the influence of early Christianity, where the dragon and its serpentine relations were often regarded as stand-ins for the devil. In contrast to the Western connotations of the dragon, the dragon in Chinese culture symbolizes good luck, strength, health and the male element Yang. Exceptional modernist spikes pendant-brooch.
A contemporary statement piece crafted in the shape of a Maltese cross in solid 18 karats of textured yellow gold. Is suited at the reverse with a horizontal hinged pin bar, with a lock. This can be used also as a pendant to hang into a chain.
Is mounted in the center, with one Mabe white pearl of 21.5 mm and four spiky elements carved from natural translucent white quartz with a combined weight of 28 carats.
The scimitar shaped rays are accented with 4 calibrated marquise cuts diamonds symmetrically placed, 0.40 carats, F/G color, VS-2 clarity.
Although this design had already been used for more than 2000 years since ancient times, fashion and jewelry houses such as Verdura, Channel and Bvlgari integrated this very popular model into their designs. Being since then an icon of high fashion. One of the most iconic pieces of jewelry depicting a Maltese cross, was designed by Fulco Di Verdura (1899-1978) in 1920, when he created the iconic Maltese cross cuff bracelet for his friend Coco Chanel.

Outstanding jeweled Pendant-Brooch designed by Verdura.
An iconic vintage piece, designed in 1950 by Verdura as a stylized asymmetric eight pointed Maltese cross. It was individually assembled by pieces, crafted in solid 18 karats of high polished yellow gold and embellished with gemstones. Suited at the reverse with a hinged vertical double pins bars with a trombone lock. Can be wear as a pendant too.
Prong set with a mix of 28 rounds and oval cuts gems, of natural green tourmaline, gradated from deep and light color variations,. They have a combined weight of about 30 carats.
Accented, with 22 round brilliant cut diamonds, all prong set, with a total weight of 1.10 carats, F/G color, VS-2 clarity.
This piece have a total weight of 54.1 grams and a measures of 58 mm by 58 mm (2.28 by 2.28 inches).
Stamped with the maker's mark, serially numbered and signed, "VERDURA VC 1061".
The Duke Fulco Di Verdura (1899-1978) start his career as a designer in Paris in 1920, Creating the iconic Maltese cross cuff bracelet for his friend Coco Chanel. In the 1934 he moved to the United States and closely collaborate with Paul Flato in California, designing jewelry for the Hollywood stars of the new movie era, including Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich.
In the 1939, he moved again, but this time to the city of New York and open the Verdura boutique, in the Fifth Avenue location. in that period Verdura gain the estimation of the very high-profile clientele in the new York's high society.
