Eleanor graduated from Tulane University with a BA in Sociology and from Southern Methodist University School of Law with a JD.
Eleanor began to pursue painting after her children went to college. She has studied with Nancy Paris Pruden in Houston for the last 20 years and for two years with Arielle Masson at the Glassell School of Art. When it comes to abstract painting, the creation date is important. At the height of Abstraction Expressionism, overlooked Academic Artist John Atherton created a wonderfully complex painting that embodies many of the characteristics of what was going on in Mid-Century American Art. The work is simultaneously abstract as it is representational. Like a Bento Box, it's divided into sections by dividers. On close inspection, each section stands on it's own as a beautiful mini-painting yet coalesces as part of the whole. From a distance, it is eye-pleasing, but as the view gets closer and closer, new structures and details gloriously reveal themselves. This is an important painting and not unlike the work of Joaquín Torres-García. It was done in the last year of the artist's life. Signed lower right. Canvas is relined. Framed size: 30 x 41.25. The work is best viewed with top gallery lights to bring out color.

Joan Kahn (USA 1953-) grew up in New York City; Princeton, New Jersey; and Vermont; in an environment that patronized the arts. At home her father, a professor, and mother, a state economist and homemaker, collected nineteenth and twentieth century drawings and prints, Middle eastern rugs, and ceramics, pewter, and old tools. Her grandfather, Max Westfield, was an academically trained portrait painter and her great uncle was a well-known gallery owner and art dealer in pre-World War II Germany. One of the influential experiences of Joan’s youth was visiting her grandfather in his studio in Tennessee where the family had first immigrated.
Growing up near New York, and spending a year in Paris during high school, provided formative visits to museums and galleries. Joan was academically talented in grade and high school, but after her father’s death during her first years at university she found herself concentrating on studio and history of art. It was a subject above others absorbed and concentrated her focus.
Influential in Joan’s development and later work are the historic movements of the Bauhaus and Modernist design and architecture, geometric art and design of diverse cultures, Color Field Painting. She has since exhibited work in solo and group exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe, including solo shows in New York, San Francisco, Berkeley, Scottsdale, AZ, Richmond, VA, and Savannah, GA. In 2003, curator Raffaella Guidobono gave Viveiros a show at TAD Concept Store in Rome.
Viveiros’s paintings have been collected by a wide array of corporations, including eBay and Capital One Bank, as well as by individuals such as WalMart’s Rob Walton and novelist Danielle Steel. Her large diptych, The Whale, was purchased by Banner Children’s Hospital and currently hangs in their radiology ward. Summit Medical Group MD Anderson Cancer Center in New Jersey has many of her works in their collection. In addition, five of Viveiros’s paintings were purchased by the Art in Embassies Program and are permanently installed in the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

About the Artist
Alicia Dunn’s abstract paintings are affected by a confluence of elements: the weather, her mood, and the properties of her materials. “Ceding control to these things allows the magic to happen,†the artist explains. Alicia's paintings capture the unique energy of nature, particularly that of the beach where she lives. Staring into the tranquil and luminous colors of her work, the viewer connects to shape of the waves, the swiftness of the wind, and the beginning of a day. Alicia is inspired by the simple things in life. Her awe of nature’s perfection and the thrill of constant discovery are conveyed in her art. Alicia works in water-based acrylic paint, and has developed a technique using blending gels to achieve not only rich color and texture, but also an eroded, weathered effect that reflects the process of the painting’s creation.
