China Extra Large Natural Marble Stone "Painting" Magnificent Mountain Peak
Located in South Burlington, VT
This Chinese extraordinary natural marble stone painting of a mountain range in green and white colors is called a dream stone Shih-hua. It is a huge monumental masterwork of nature. Totally natural. Dimensions: Hardwood frame: 62.5 inches tall and 88 inches length Site: 54.5 inches tall and 80 inches length This thin marble stone painting is approximately 3/8 inch thick and is cut from a large slab of rough material revealing a unique, incredible pattern in soft green and white colors. This unique work of art was from historic Dali marble found in the Cangshan mountains of western China. These mysterious mountains, unique in the world, are known for yielding incredible and fantastic natural landscaped works of art created over tens of millions of years from mineral inclusions that affected the process of ancient organic material which transformed into limestone and finally resulted in marble- a metamorphic hard stone. This art form is centuries of years old since the Ming dynasty. Dream stones became favored art in the west particularly since the 19th century when French collectors named them Pierres de reve. History of Green Flower dream stone paintings: “Green Flower” dream stone paintings known in China as Shui Mo or Chinese painting stone, were cut from stone found on Shuang Yang mountain in Dali moutains Captivating compositions, they might remind us of a long string of rugged mountain caps from a distance. These dream stones are cut from a scarce regional stone yielding notoriously “fuzzy” detailed paintings. To find examples possessing clear, contrasting detail like this one is indeed a rare find. Fine stone paintings like this example are rare as access to and availability of resource material diminishes. After a thin coating of wax is carefully applied to its surface to protect and reveal its beautiful subtle colors, this stone painting is signed upper right position with poetic verse and seal of an artisan who describes its majestic beauty as Provenance: Private Chinese collection, Yunnan, China. Reference: Dreaming of Dreamstones China’s Extraordinary Natural Stone Paintings, Schneible Fine Arts. Dreaming of Dreamstones – World’s first comprehensive English text publication covers China’s extraordinary natural Stone Paintings, by author and dream stone lecturer Douglas Schneible...

Finest Chinese Porcelain Falangcai Enamel Plate Birds Blossoms Republic ROC 20c
Located in Richmond, CA
Presenting an exceptional Chinese Falangcai enamel plate, a tour de force of ceramic artistry that seamlessly blends the intricate detailing of Fencai with the vibrant hues of Falangcai enameling. This plate is a sublime example of the "Fan Qiang" (over wall) technique, a masterful application that allows the depicted scene to transcend the back of the plate and extend into its front, creating a visually immersive experience. The focal point of this plate is a meticulously rendered vibrant garden scene, where two birds are perched in a blossoming tree. The birds, captured in a moment of serene interaction, are set against a backdrop of blossoming branches, adding layers of symbolism and aesthetic appeal. The garden setting further enhances the naturalistic theme, imbuing the piece with a sense of tranquility and harmony. The plate is finely detailed, employing a combination of Fencai and Falangcai enameling techniques to achieve a rich, multi-layered visual effect. The colors are vibrant yet balanced, capturing the essence of the scene with a remarkable degree of realism. Adding to its historical and collectible value is an apocryphal six-character vertical mark "Da Qing Yong Zheng...

Large Japanese Satsuma Ceramic Vase Kinkozan
By Kinkozan
Located in Atlanta, GA
A large Japanese ceramic vase from the end of Meiji period circa 1890-1910s by Kinkozan (1645-1927). One of the largest studio manufacturers of the export ceramics at the time based in Kyoto. In the typical style of satsuma made at the turn of 20th century, the vase is elaborately decorated with a rather unusual kinran-de (gold paint) and green enamel highlight on a mottled brown background. The painterly decoration depicts a large seasonal floral arrangement in a circular fashion. Besides the obviously superb craftsmanship, what sets this particular vase apart from many lower quality and mass-produced pieces is its tone-on-tone color pallet that is visually somber and the small and sensitive details that heralds the change of the seasons. When the viewer goes beyond the first casual glimpse of the blossom and foliage, one would notice that on the edges of certain leaves as well as along the stalks, there accumulates a very thin layer of the white dust that represents the frost. The flower in bloom are chrysanthemums. Despite of being splendid, they are the messengers of the autumn. The large lotus leaf was subtly rendered in a bended and slightly withered manner, just past its prime. Although the lotus is still in bloom, the prominent seed pod indicates it may be the last for the season. The sentimental capture of the change of the seasons is not unusual in Japanese art. This vase poetically represents such a subtle transition from summer to fall, perhaps depicting the very first frost. The neck of the vase is also slightly unusual with two rolled rings...

Chinese Porcelain Underglaze Blue & Copper Red Peaches Bottle Vase Late 20c Pair
Located in Richmond, CA
We present to you a remarkable pair of Chinese porcelain bottle vases, a true embodiment of the finesse and artistry that characterizes Chinese porcelain craftsmanship. These vases are very well potted, and hand-painted with meticulous precision, featuring a harmonious blend of underglaze blue and copper red hues that bring the depicted scenes to vibrant life. The central motif of these vases is a lush depiction of peaches on tree branches, a classic symbol of longevity and prosperity in Chinese culture. The artistry captures the natural beauty and lushness of the peaches, with each piece showcasing a vivid tableau that seems to unfold before your eyes, inviting viewers into a serene orchard where nature's bounty is in full bloom. Adding a layer of authenticity and historical depth to these vases is the six-character Yongzheng mark enclosed within double circles on the bottom. This mark, indicative of the Yongzheng Emperor's reign, a period noted for its artistic innovation and excellence, adds a significant layer of cultural and historical value to the pieces. Fine Japanese Satsuma Ceramic Jar with Gilt Decoration by Kinkozan
By Kinkozan
Located in Atlanta, GA
A large Japanese ceramic vase from end of Meiji period circa 1880s- 1910s by Kinkozan (1645-1927). One of the largest studio manufacturers of the export ceramics at the time based in Kyoto. In the typical style of satsuma made at the turn of 20th century, the vase is of a moon jar shape and finely decorated with kinran-de (gold paint) on a cream white background with even fine crackles. What sets this particular vase apart from many lower quality and mass-produced pieces is the meticulously renditioned surface decoration. Lavishly gilded with a continuous design, the carefully composed imagery depicts an elaborately decorated float cart in a festival parade. A group of people are seated within the float with a woman and a child standing in the front. Surrounding the float are streams of marchers dressed...
