Circa third quarter of the Nineteenth Century. Exquisitely decorated in colours of turquoise on white glazed ground with lavish gold highlights. The First Period Worcester porcelain teacup and saucer has a reeded French shape and is richly decorated with the Holly Berry pattern- a variation of the Hop Trellis pattern. Panels of purple plants alternate with berried foliage between borders of lilac diaper and gold herringbone and a lower border of white pearls on a bright turquoise ground. There are gilt dentil rims and the inside of the cup has flowers and berried sprigs below a gold band. Each measures roughly 12.25"(31cm) tall, by 12.5"(32cm) wide, by 4.5"(11.5cm) deep, and the pair together weigh 96 troy ounces. The design for the Knights is taken from a relief which can be found at the tomb of Emperor Maximilian I in the 'Hofkirche' of Innsbruck in Germany. The relief shows Emperor Maximilian I at the Battle of the Spurs (also known as the (second) Battle of the Guinegate), and was created by Albrecht Durer. The knights are believed to depict Emperor Maximilian I & King Ferdinand I.
