The globe is contained in its original case, which itself is covered in shark skin.
There are slight gaps in the original paint on the sphere. The case no longer closes.
The sphere measures 2.7 in (7 cm) in diameter whereas the case measures 2.9 in (7.4 cm) in diameter.

The celestial globe is depicted on the inside of the box and is divided into two hemispheres with the cartouche:

It shows the ecliptic divided into the days of the zodiacal calendar and the constellations represented as animals and mythological figures.
On the globe are delineated the equinoctial line, divided by degrees and hours, the ecliptic and the meridian (passing west of Greenwich). The continents are shaded and outlined in pink, green and yellow. It shows: the Cook routes; a wind rose in the Southern Indian Ocean; Antarctica without land; Africa with Negroland (Hermann Moll is considered the first geographer to name the West African region in his 1727 map. (Encyclopaedia Britannica, ed. 1902, under "States of Central Africa"); Tartary in Central Asia; the Mogul kingdom in northern India; in North America only New England, Virginia, Carolina, Florida, Mississippi are identified; California is already a peninsula; the northwest coast of America is "unknown parts" (Alaska is not described and it is only partially delineated, it was to become part of the United States in 1867); Mexico is named "Spain"; Central South America "Amazone America". Australia (which was to be so named after 1829) is called New Holland. The route of Admiral Anson is traced (1740) and the trade winds are indicated by arrows. Elly Dekker, comparing Moll’s 1719 globe and his re-edition (of which the one described above is a sample), identifies the differences between them: the two editions are quite similar to each other, but in the "anonymous" globe, compared to the previous globe of 1719, California looks like a proper peninsula - the reports of the Spanish explorers of the region had given rise to uncertainty over whether it was connected to the mainland or not. The geographical nature of California was confirmed after the explorations of Juan Bautista de Anza (1774-1776). The routes of Dampier's journey were partially erased and the route of Captain James Cook's first voyage was superimposed on them, and the geography of Australasia was adapted accordingly, including the denomination of the Cook Strait. Powder horns stand among the rarest and most treasured forms of American folk art. Unlike commercial objects, these deeply personal items were crafted by soldiers, sailors and explorers for practical use during their journeys. Through scrimshaw—an intricate technique of engraving bone or horn with a simple jackknife and filling the crevices with available pigments like soot or ash—these individuals left tangible marks of their hopes, dreams and experiences. This exceptional American Revolutionary War powder horn belonged to Charles Goodrich (1720-1816), a significant figure in early Pittsfield, Massachusetts history. The horn displays distinctive period characteristics with the inscription "PITTSFIELD" clearly visible on its amber-colored surface.
Charles Goodrich, born in Wethersfield, Connecticut in 1720, became a prominent civic leader in Pittsfield. He built the first house in the settlement in 1754 and served in various official roles, including Justice of the Peace and town representative to Boston. While Goodrich's name may not appear prominently in history textbooks, historical documents—particularly his September 3, 1776 petition to the Massachusetts Assembly—reveal his compelling story. The petition shows that Goodrich faced accusations of being a British sympathizer and draft evader. According to his account, he was targeted for his public office, physically assaulted by a man named James Morey and subsequently fined by a local committee. Goodrich maintained that he merely defended himself when attacked and claimed ignorance of requirements to either serve as a drafted soldier or hire a substitute—accusations that branded him unpatriotic during the revolutionary fervor.
The Massachusetts Council's concurrence with Goodrich's petition likely inspired his subsequent military service. His powder horn, bearing the inscription of Pittsfield, accompanied him to Fort Ticonderoga, where Simonds' Regiment of Militia (2nd Berkshire County Regiment) was stationed during the difficult winter of 1776-1777. Fort Ticonderoga, a strategic stronghold in upstate New York, had been seized from the British in May 1775 by Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold. By the time of Goodrich's service, American forces occupied the fort while preparing for an expected British counterattack. In August 1777, Goodrich and Simonds' Regiment participated in the Battle of Bennington—a decisive engagement where Patriot forces under General John Stark defeated British and Hessian troops. This victory significantly weakened General John Burgoyne's invasion force, contributing to his surrender at Saratoga in October 1777—a pivotal turning point that helped secure French support for the American cause.

A fine late 18th Century large Dutch four-poster bed with exceptional posts and ealy 19th century Italian carved giltwood swans.
The posts with well carved elements: neoclassical urns, capitals, carved turnings and vase sections; their most attractive part is the boxwood and mahogany lined inlay which we haven't seen on English 18th beds.
In addition, unusally, the rails are designed to be seen and made in mahogany and framed with carved and plain astragal beads.
Good sturdy construction, fixed together with steel bolts and will dismantle for shipping.
Needs new drapery hangings and the white fabric around the end posts & headboard should be cleaned or replaced. For the new mattress, we would recommend a box spring mattress with a well (height is saved with part of the box mattress fitting between the rails) and a second mattress on top. But you could also fit lathes and just have the top mattress with cut out corners to fit around the posts: norris bedding custom make such mattresses.

This original 18th century frame is gilded over copper. It is elaborately embossed and chiseled. The cartouche is surrounded by rocaille and volute motifs. The Carta is mounted on a wood backing and rests on two linear bases. It is very rare to find the original altar glory prayer still present inside. It explains the part of the Mass being performed.
This is an extremely special museum piece for any ecclesiastical collection.

Four 18th Century Vellum Covered Latin Books

These four books printed in Latin are covered in beautiful old vellum covers and spines. Each book contains text, margin commentary and pictorial illustration to the fronts pages. All but one is from the same library with like beautifully embossed bindings and like blue colored paper borders. These three had at one point clasp binders now gone or in a damaged state. The final book is vellum bound but not in embossed covers and spines.

17th Century Spanish Colonial Hispano-Philippine Carved Santo

A scarce 17th century Spanish Colonial carved wood santo with provenance from the National Museum of the Philippines Manila.

A large part of what makes this example so very rare is not just the age and condition, but the saint depicted, San Roque.
The Hispano-Philippine (Spanish-Filipinos) hand carved hard wood religious altar figure presents splendidly, with scattered remnants of original gesso and polychrome pigments, the exceptionally sculpted religious folk art depicting San Roque (Saint Roch or Rocco), the 14th century Catholic patron saint frequently invoked against the plaque, various infectious disease, as well as patron saint of dogs, invalids, of falsely accused people, and of bachelors, amongst others.
Provenance / Acquisition:
Retaining registration - identification label to verso from The Republic of the Philippines (RP) National Museum of the Philippines Manila with hand written registration number.
Acquired from highly reputable auction house, Austin Auction Gallery, est. 1982, Austin, Texas. February 2022 catalog.

Great original antique condition, especially considering it's around 350 years old. Nicely aged patina over the whole. Presented on a later wood plinth base. Typical loss to right arm, minor finish losses, old tiny metal plate added to prevent age related splitting, all wear consistent with age, and only adds to the overall sophisticated character, authenticity, and charming rustic warmth that can only be acquired over long periods of time.
