1960s Mid Century Modern Harry Bertoia Knoll Brown Chrome Bird Chair & Ottoman

About the Item

This is a 1960s Knoll Bertoia Bird Chair, a modernist icon designed by Harry Bertoia in 1952 and produced by Knoll. I purchased this from the original owner that purchased early-mid 1960s and replaced the pads in 1978 shown in photos. • Wire frame construction: The chair features an airy, sculptural form made of welded steel rods, creating a basket-like structure that’s both lightweight and visually striking. • Chrome-plated base: The wire frame sits atop sleek, angular chrome sled legs that are minimalist and mid-century in design. • High-back silhouette: The “bird” shape comes from the elongated backrest and swooping seat, designed to cradle the body with ergonomic intent. • Upholstered seat pad and backrest: Covered in a textured brown fabric, the cushions add comfort while keeping the chair’s structural elegance visible. • Matching ottoman: Upholstered in the same fabric and with matching legs, the ottoman completes the set, enhancing relaxation. Bertoia’s work blends art and furniture seamlessly, and this chair is a classic example of that philosophy—sculptural, functional, and timeless. Chair in overall great condition as seen. Upholstery needs mild cleaning. I've lightly polished & cleaned the chrome. Message with questions.
