About the Item

This Sergio Rodriguez Sheriff Chair and Ottoman were completely disassembled and each piece of rosewood was stripped, sanded and refinished in multiple coats of hand-buffed finishing oil. Every dowel was also oiled and detailed before reassembly. Both frames are now rock solid and special care was given to each joint to ensure rigidity. The original leather straps were cleaned and conditioned. All the straps are strong and sturdy. Of course, all of this was in addition to the new leather upholstery. Our team decided to go with a slightly under-stuffed and minimalist look to the cushions to allow more visibility to the stunning rosewood frame. The black leather compliments the strapping and rosewood frame. The button tufting pattern we chose adds a subtle tailored look in accordance to the overall atmosphere of this rare and iconic chair. A striking example of mid-century Brazilian design, this sling lounge chair with matching ottoman was designed by Sergio Rodrigues for ISA (Industria de Moveis e Artefatos de Madeira), circa 1960s. The frame is masterfully constructed from richly grained Brazilian rosewood (jacaranda), known for its depth of tone and sculptural beauty. The design features a relaxed, sling-style seat and ottoman suspended in a bold architectural frame — a hallmark of Rodrigues' work. The set has been newly upholstered in supple black leather, offering a fresh, refined contrast to the warmth of the rosewood while staying true to the original spirit of the piece. The new leather enhances both the visual impact and the longevity of the design. Wood dowel hardware and joinery add a touch of understated luxury, further highlighting the fine craftsmanship that defines this piece. A timeless blend of comfort and sophistication, this lounge set exemplifies Rodrigues' pioneering role in shaping Brazilian Modernism. Tulip Group Lounge Chairs in Rosewood by K M Wilkins for G-Plan of England
By Charles and Ray Eames, Thonet, Percival Lafer, G Plan Furniture
Located in Chattanooga, TN
Matching sofa also available and sold separately (see last pic). This incredible set was purchased new in Glasgow, Scotland in 1970. We acquired from the original owners who kept them in pristine condition. Designed by K.M. Wilkins for G-Plan of England, this line is appropriately named the "Tulip Group". Wilkins also designed the the well known Housemaster Chair, often misattributed to Ib Kofod Larsen. The "Tulip" design is demonstrated by the rosewood panels which are molded into curves that mimic a blossoming flower. Offered almost exclusively in teak, this rosewood set is truly a rare find. The rich, amber-red panels are perfectly complimented by the chrome hardware and velvet fabric. The luxuriously soft velvet is in amazing condition. The color is difficult to describe, but in our opinion, it's a cross between olive-green and taupe-brown. Of course the refraction of light on velvet can magnify or minimize the tones and highlights depending on the angle and environment. Both chairs hover on their original Magnum Orbit chrome...
