Zanotta Allunaggio Outdoor/Indoor Seat by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni

About the Item

Outdoors stool. Steel legs, aluminium alloy seat painted grass green. Natural polyethylene feet. Allunaggio (Moon landing), an outdoor chair designed by the two funambulist Castiglioni brothers, really looks like an object ‘landed’ from another planet and is unequalled in the history of design. This structure was designed – with its three thin legs as far apart as possible from the seat they support – to ‘shade as little as possible’. Design by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni Project year 1965 Compasso d' Oro Selection, 1981 - Collection: Museum für Gestaltung, Zürich - Centro per l' arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci, Prato - Israel Museum, Jerusalem - Musée National d' Art Moderne, Paris - Fonds Régional d'Art Contemporain, Dunkerque - Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris - Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Bordeaux.

Zanotta Sella Bicycle Pink Stool by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni
By Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Zanotta
Located in New York, NY
Seat. Black saddle of racing bicycle, pink lacquered steel column. Cast-iron base. Dynamic balance Irony and attention to the functions are the assumptions on which ‘jugglers’ Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni based their participation in the exhibition Colori e forme nella casa d’oggi, at Villa Olmo, Como, in 1957. This was one of the founding experiences of the Italian design culture, where, as if by magic, a real racing bicycle saddle (Sella) appeared, mounted on a stainless steel column supported by a heavy hemispherical base, capable of a ‘dynamic balance’. The object was designed as a ‘telephone stool...
