Leader was born in Worcester as Benjamin Leader Williams, the son, and first child of eleven children, of notable civil engineer Edward Leader Williams (1802–79) and Sarah Whiting (1801–88). His father was described as a "non conformist dissenter" and his mother was a Quaker – their marriage in an Anglican church resulted in them being disowned by the Society of friends.
Leader's father was a keen amateur artist – a friend of John Constable – and Benjamin would often accompany him on sketching trips along the banks of the River Severn. His brother, also Edward Leader Williams, later became a notable civil engineer who was knighted for his work, and is now mainly remembered for designing Manchester ship canal...

The House Restaurant, a unique part of life in the Capitol, has been in the same location since the 1857 Capitol Expansion. Congressional members’ busy work schedule made the availability of food on site a necessity. William Umpleby Kirk (Kirk and Sons) A photographer of the late Victorian era. Born in Hull and grew up nearby where, in the early 1870s, he set up his first photographic studio. His early work has survived and are collected. In 1881 Kirk movies to Cowes, Isle of Wight. Cowes at the time was the centre of yachting internationally. A sport of royalty and the rich and privileged. At Cowes boats and yachts were raced, bought, sold and of course shown off. Kirk photographed the boats and their owners. He specialised in Marine photography, in portraiture e.g a copy of Kirk’s photograph of The Marquis of Ormonde is held in the British National Archives at Kew.
He also photographed groups at house parties, tutor groups and sports teams of Naval Cadets at Osborne Naval College. His photographs of the sumptuous interiors of large yachts remain to record that era.
Kirk’s reputation grew when he photographed Queen Victoria’s yacht, HMY Alberta at a speed of 10 knots entering Cowes Harbour; this is said to be one of the first British photographs of a vessel in motion. (citation needed) and to have earned him the Royal Warrant to Queen Victoria. Photographs by Kirk of the yachts Bona and Ailsa, for example, were sold by auction at Christie’s, New York.

A rare “fixé sous verre” painting using a combined technique of chromolithography for the faces and hands, and silk embroidery for the clothes and background drape. Representing three women holding each other’s hands.
Chromolithography technique uses thin paper motifs glued and varnished to integrate its support.
Along from the rich Spanish legacy, Argentina is also very influenced since 19th century by European culture, notably Italian. Traces of American Indian culture are harder to find than in the other Latin America countries. During 19th century, with the National pride appears Argentina specific cultural themes. The Gaucho character, keeping the cattle in the Pampas, is recurrent in literature and particularly in poetry: Fausto (1866), by Estanilaslao del Campo, or Martin Fierro (1872), by José Hernandez, often considered to be an hymn to the Pampa. Painting also celebrates this genre with the works of painter Prilidiano Pueyrredon (1823-1870).
At the beginning of 19th century, painters in Latin America and particularly in Argentina are foreigners (French, Germans and British) named Costumbristas, painting folkloric landscapes and portraits much appreciated in Europe.
