Awol Erizku Hammer, Stick, Same Thang Limited Edition Print
By Phaidon
Located in New York, NY
Print: Six-color full-bleed silkscreen on Coventry Rag 335gsm Size: 610 x 508 mm (24 x 20 in) This work is a varied edition of 50, of which 25 are blue and 25 are yellow This work is signed on a label adhered on verso Hammer, Stick, Same thang, 2017 is an edition that is based off an original painting. In this work, Awol has appropriated the iconic arm & hammer image and logo which is both localized and ubiquitous and appears across the country in interchangeable locales, signifying a variety of ethnicities and communities. Stripping the logo of its relationship to the ancient mythologies and products and the surrounding urban landscapes, it becomes both a meditation on post-Warholian production, and a response to color theory recalling Joseph Albers' pedagogical exercises that influenced Erizku when he was a student at Cooper Union. The original artwork was painted on sheets of OSB instead of canvas and teeters on the divide between the studio and the street responding to different moments in art history, as well as the constantly evolving surface of the city. Awol Erizku...

Fred Wilson: Untitled: Antilles Limited Edition Print
By Phaidon
Located in New York, NY
Print Pigment inkjet on HotPress Natural, 300 gsm Measures: 20.00 x 25.00 in 50.8 x 63.5 cm Edition of 108 Signed and numbered by the artist. This work is part of the Vera List Anniversary Print Portfolio, created in recognition of the exceptional legacy of philanthropist Vera List. It was the generosity of Vera and her husband Albert that enabled the founding of the Vera List Art Project at Lincoln Center in 1962, MIT's List Arts Center in 1982, and the Vera List Center for Art and Politics at The New School in 1992, among others. These institutions joined forces with Artspace and six internationally renowned artists to produce this print portfolio. This print by Fred Wilson is comprised of a mashup of flags of Caribbean nations, presenting an idea about the relationships among the people of these cultures. Fred Wilson is a conceptual artist of African-American and Caribbean descent who's primarily known for rearranging art and artifacts in museum collections to reveal the inherent racism and gender politics that are often overlooked. First gaining notoriety in the early '90s with the exhibition Mining the Museum, in which he placed a whipping post from pre-Civil War America in a gallery and surrounded it with four ornate chairs...

Richard Hirsch Encaustic Painting of Nothing #62, 2020
By Richard A. Hirsch
Located in New York, NY
Contemporary American ceramic artist Richard Hirsch's encaustic Painting of Nothing #62 is made of ceramic raw materials, dry pigment and wax. This piece is part of his ongoing Painting of Nothing Series. Hirsch applies the waxy mix with a brush onto redwood plywood backed structures with two-inch wood strips all around and used various torches to layer, flux, bubble and blend. "Waxy and very tactile, they are probably the work Mark Rothko would have done had he spent most of his life in clay. Hirsch’s paintings have the nuance, subtle texture, and color shifts that become evident in blown-up photographs of his ceramic objects as well as a similar presence." Signed and dated en verso by the artist. This painting ship directly from the artist’s studio in Rochester, NY. (Literature: "With Fire: Richard Hirsch, A Life Between Chance and Design", Scott Meyer (Author), RIT Cary Graphic Arts Press 2012 - "The Paintings" pgs. 102 - 105) Richard Hirsch brief bio: In the field of contemporary ceramic, Rick Hirsch has earned an international reputation. He has achieved this recognition by engaging in numerous diversified professional activities. Through efforts in university teaching, exhibits, writing, lecturing and researching he has risen to worldwide prominence. In 1975, Hirsch co-authored a book entitled Raku, published by Watson-Guptill. This was the first comprehensive text to address the new innovations developing in the west that were transforming traditional Japanese Raku. Also, in the same year, Hirsch became a founding faculty member of The Program in Artistry at Boston University. Currently, Hirsch is a Professor Emeritus at The School for American Crafts which is a part of Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. His university teaching career now spans well over four decades. Repeatedly, Hirsch has participated in several milestone exhibitions and publications. Significant shows include; The Evolution of American Art in Craft Media Since 1945; Echoes: Historical References in Contemporary Ceramics; American Ceramics...
