Professor George De Goya. PhD. MA. FRSA. Born In Budapest, 1915-1992, related to the Spanish artist Goya on his mother’s side. Educated in Budapest and France where he received a degree in philosophy from the Sorbonne, Paris. Returned to Budapest to study art at the Fine Arts Academy, then continued his studies at the Academie Julienne, Paris, where he was influenced by the post impressionist artists including Picasso, Salvadore, Dali and Chagall. His motto was “history is the inevitable conveyance of great situations by great personalities.”
He came to England due to the Hungarian uprising in 1956 where he taught history of art and art appreciation.
Started receiving commissions for book and commercial illustrations in 1961.

In the 1920’s Bate moved to New York City to study at the Art Students League under Frederick Bridgman. He soon landed a job with Encyclopedia Britannica, and from 1927-1929 served as art editor. From 1929 until his death in 1972, Stanley was a self-employed artist. He taught art classes at both the Art Students League and the Albany Institute of History and Art and brought in extra income by making illustrations for magazines such as “Outdoor Life” and “Popular Science”.
On January 27, 1934 Stanley married Emilie Rossel. Emilie had emigrated from Switzerland to New York in 1923. She found work as a governess to Alfred Vanderbilt and later as an executive secretary for Wall Street investment brokers Kahn, Loeb and Co. Emilie met Stanley in New York in the early 1930’s when she attended one of his art exhibitions with a friend. The couple, who had no children, lived on 34th Street in Manhattan. During this period, Bate was producing and exhibiting his art and joined several artists groups. Stanley and Emilie became part of the New York art scene, dining weekly at the Society of Illustrators Clubhouse.
Stanley Bate’s time in New York was pivotal in the formation of his painting style. He lived in New York during the inception of one of the most important Modern Art movements, one that helped New York replace Paris as the center of avant-garde art. Tadasky (Tadasuke Kuwayama) was born in Nagoya, Japan. He painted since childhood, but as a youngster was steered toward his father's business of shrine-building. This led him to study applied engineering at university in Tokyo and learn the craft of miyadaiku (shrine carpenters) in the family factory.
Tadasky taught himself about modern and Western art from books. His eyes were opened to the power of abstraction through the work of Josef Albers and other Bauhaus artists; art made up of simple squares and other geometric elements was essentially prohibited in the Japanese art tradition. In Japan, Tadasky experimented with many forms of art, including representational painting, but by the time he applied for scholarships to the United States, he was experimenting with simple circles in larger constructions.
Tadasky came to the United States in 1961 on a scholarship to study at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Tadasky's first stop was New York where he decided to stay. He soon won a modern art scholarship competition at the Art Students League and the prize of free tuition enabled him to stay in New York and rent a studio loft in which he worked. At this time, Tadasky sustained himself financially with carpentry work. Later he transferred to the art school of the Brooklyn Museum after Tadasky impressed the director enough to get a scholarship to work entirely in his own studio in Manhattan.
In the early 1960s, Tadasky began to focus on compositions of concentric circles that trigger optical color interaction and explore sensory stimulation. They are highly calculated and precisely created, consisting of thin, pulsating, vibrantly colored lines that seem to whirl and radiate outward from the center. Shortly after arriving in New York, Tadasky set out to create tools that would aid him to create the perfect rings he envisioned. Through painstaking solitary experimentation in his studio, Tadasky developed a special wheel for his circles and adapted it into a drum for vertical lines. For brushwork, he used traditional Japanese brushes best suited to the fine detail of his paintings.
