Life-Size Italian 19th Century Marble Sculpture Children on Crib, A. Tantardini
Located in LA, CA
Antonio Tantardini (Italian, 1829-1879) An extraordinary Italian 19th century life size carved Carrara white marble sculpture of "A Young Child and a baby in a wicker crib" - A Risorgimento Allegory. Signed and dated: A.nio Tantanrdini F.ce / 1863. The older child's medallion inscribed with an interlocked XV and Garibaldi, the crib monogrammed: AR. Circa: Florence, 1863. This sculpture includes a recent custom-made veined black marble pedestal stand. (The 2 items description mean the sculpture and pedestal, which are sold as sold a set.) In a country famed for its skilled carvers and working in an age when virtuoso carving technique was highly prized, Antonio Tantardini was one of the very best exponents of master carvers in nineteenth century Italy. Vicario describes Tantardini's skill as 'un abilità tecnica stupefacente'. The present amazing quality marble group epitomizes Tantardini's exceptional talents as a carver. Lesser sculptors might have shied away from attempting to carve a life-size wicker crib in marble, but Tantardini has clearly relished the Challenge. The result is a stunning achievement of verismo Italian sculpture. This marble group, however, is more than a paradigm of Italian marble carving, it is also a prime example of the use of Risorgimento allegory in Italian sculpture of the 1860s. Famous sculptural Risorgimento allegories include Raffaelle Monti...

Pélican
Located in Pasadena, CA
After completing his studies at the Royal Catalan Academy of Fine Arts in Sant Jordi, Barcelona, Jorge Borrás moved to France1. His works, especially his bronzes, are sold in major auctions mainly in France (Versailles, Drouot, Saint Germain En Laye, Enghien les Bains, etc. June 30, 1992, two bronzes were sold at Christie's in London) 2. They are exhibited in Parisian salons such as the Salon d'automne3, the Salon des artistes français, the Salon des Independants the exhibitions of the National Society of Fine Arts, the Salon de l'école française [ref. necessary]. He received the Arts-Sciences-Lettresn 1 Medal and is a member of the International Association of Visual Arts (affiliated with UNESCO). In addition, he produced a series of medals and sculptures for the Monnaie de Paris, and various achievements such as the bust of Dr. Coll Colomé, a monument erected in Benicarlo (Spain) and publishing covers including the novel by Jean-Marc Roberts Vincent's friend. The work of Jorge Borrás is a tribute to the woman [ref. necessary]. Her favorite themes are ballerinas and bathers as well as women in everyday attitudes. Wild animals, some endangered, are also very present in the work of Jorge Borrás, especially in recent years where he takes great pleasure in capturing the wild moment of his attitudes. Passionate about drawing, he began painting at the age of ten and made his first exhibition at the age of twenty. At the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, he discovered sculpture with Luisa Granero and studied painting and sculpture. The students the drawing section, of the great master of Spanish painting and portrait painter Francisco Ribera Gomez...

Venus Figure
Located in Toronto, Ontario
Sorel Etrog (1933 - 2014) is arguably Canada's most famous sculptor. His works can be found in numerous museums and private collections including the Tate, the AGO and LACMA. His public sculptures can be found on iconic corners in Toronto, Montreal, Israel and beyond. The Art Gallery of Ontario organized a major retrospective of his work that ran in 2013. This work is the earliest Etrog sculpture Caviar20 has handled to date. It is from Etrog's debut period and may be one of his first works to be casted. This untitled work aka "Venus Figure" merges two signature elements that Etrog employs or combines frequently - the primitive with modernist figuration. The proportions and curves of this work recall the ancient "Venus of Willendorf" sculpture - filtered through Etrog's abstracted bronze lens. Similar sculptures, referred to as "Venus Figurines...

Poisson En Mission"- Serving Bowl (Hand-Painted, Gold Luster, Fish, Durer)
Located in Kansas City, MO
Melanie Sherman "Poisson En Mission" - Serving Bowl (Hand-Painted, Gold Luster, Fish, Durer, Dürer, Made to Order) Porcelain, Glaze, Overglaze, Vintage Flower Decal, German Platinum and 24k German Gold Luster Year: 2023 Size: Height 4.25in x Diameter 9in (approx.) Signed by hand COA provided Ref.: 924802-1809 *Made to Order Every piece is unique, design might differ slightly Customization possible **Lead time approx. 2 weeks for qty 1-3 495 780 Her work references exclusive and precious porcelain wares from 18th-century Europe. In her work she tries to capture the qualities for which porcelain has been known since its discovery in China: whiteness, translucency, and resonance. She is attracted to the enameled and lustered surfaces of the Baroque, Renaissance and Rococo porcelain designs, as well as to elaborations on structural elements of these time periods. She is investigating surface decorations and embellished shapes in order to gain more knowledge for my own studio practice. Sherman is interested in incorporating and referencing historic drawings, motives, and patterns into her work. Studying the history of ceramics Sherman has been captivated by the relationship between East and West, and how they continue to influence each other, especially through the ceramic arts. Although there might be considerable differences between the two civilizations, the cultural exchange between them is an important connector of history and has produced a long and rich exchange of ideas between artists and makers. Asian craft traditions have been handed down to the West and the handmade aspect, even within the factory setting, is still an important concept that allows for control of design and quality by the artist, which is essential within craft of the West. Bring Figurative Sculptures into Your Home

Figurative sculptures mix reality and imagination, with the most common muse being the human body. Animals are also inspirations for these sculptures, along with forms found in nature.

While figurative sculpture dates back over 35,000 years, the term came into popularity in the 20th century to distinguish it from abstract art. It was aligned with the Expressionist movement in that many of its artists portrayed reality but in a nonnaturalistic and emotional way. In the 1940s, Alberto Giacometti — a Swiss-born artist who was interested in African art, Cubism and Surrealism — created now-iconic representational sculptures of the human figure, and after World War II, figurative sculpture as a movement continued to flourish in Europe.

Lucian Freud and Francis Bacon were some of the leading figurative artists during this period. Artists like Jeff Koons and Maurizio Cattelan propelled the evolution of figurative sculpture into the 21st century.

Figurative sculptures can be whimsical, uncanny and beautiful. Their materials range from stone and wood to metal and delicate ceramics. Even in smaller sizes, the sculptures make bold statements. A bronze sculpture by Salvador Dalí enhances a room; a statuesque bull by Jacques Owczarek depicts strength with its broad chest while its thin legs speak of fragility. Figurative sculptures allow viewers to see what is possible when life is reimagined.
