George Nelson for Herman Miller 'Primavera' Nightstands, c. 1955, Signed

About the Item

This fantastic pair of chests which can also be used as large nightstands were designed by George Nelson for Herman Miller, part of the 'Basic Cabinet Series' and also called 'Primavera', signed with a 1950's Herman Miller foil label. Ideal for collectors, the foil Herman Miller label dates to 1951 - 1956 years of production making them sought after pieces. These bedside tables / night stands, which can also be used as a small dressers, features four slide out drawers, the larger cabinet has a built-in mirror on the top drawer, and sitting on top of Nelson's signature ebonized legs. Original 'George Nelson Design, Herman Miller, Zeeland Michigan' foil label in upper drawer of one cabinet. From Herman Miller about the Basic Cabinet Series: "We’ve become a mobile society; we no longer live and die in the house in which we were born, we don’t stay in the same community for generations. We rent apartments, buy up to bigger homes, and downsize to condos when we retire. Matched furniture suites designed to fill specific rooms don’t work very well for us anymore. What happens to those pieces when we move and they don’t fit? Nelson understood that systems of modular components were the wave of the future. With the Basic Cabinet Series, he created a way to accommodate changing needs for storage and surfaces. The size and purpose of a room doesn’t matter. The interchangeable components allow you to create beautiful storage solutions for your big great room or your small living room. The system starts small in your small apartment and welcomes additional components if you move into larger spaces. As with everything George Nelson designed, it’s all about the flexibility and efficiency. And the good looks, of course." These Primavera nighstands / small dressers by George Nelson for Herman Miller would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Space Age Mod, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Post-Modern, Contemporary or Zen / Minimalism room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Hollywood Regency, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. 'Taliesin' Mahogany Twin Sized Bed Headboard by Frank Lloyd Wright, 1955, Signed
By Heritage-Henredon, Frank Lloyd Wright
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This gorgeously refinished Honduran Mahogany 'Taliesin' Collection headboard for a twin sized bed was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for Heritage-Henredon in 1955 and produced only for two years, therefore is now a highly sought-after and rare collectors item. This example is signed with a Heritage Henredon stamp on the lower front bar. Frank Lloyd Wright stated that one of his goals for this line was for the 'design to make the home more efficient as well as more beautiful'. Woven into each piece of this series was the chamfered wood edge with an abstracted Greek key motif, the signature detail of every Taliesin design, covering the edges of each item in the collection. All of the pieces were executed in Honduran Mahogany, a high-end luxury wood choice. His idea was to design ‘infinite adaptability to American living’, for example desks could double as dressing tables, small tables could be used as a chair or stool and bookcases had moveable tops transforming into room dividers. Decoration was limited to the greek key edges so that ‘is of the piece, not on it’ and the removal of elimination of any hardware door or drawer pulls in favor of cut out flush pulls...
