About the Item

Made for one of the most celebrated sports figures of the 20th century, this incredible Cartier presentation tray was gifted to the baseball star Joe DiMaggio by the New York Yankees in 1984. A cultural icon of America's favorite pastime, DiMaggio led the Yankees to nine World Series wins during his thirteen-year career, which spanned from 1936-1951. The son of Sicilian immigrants, he embodied the American Dream and earned his place as the American League’s Most Valuable Player three times over. He cemented his status as a lasting pop idol when he married America's favorite glamor girl, Marilyn Monroe, in 1954, and he still holds the MLB record hitting streak of 56 consecutive games. This sterling silver presentation tray by the legendary Cartier, which was given on the occasion of his 70th birthday, represents his team's recognition of his extraordinary lifetime of achievements. Silver pieces by Cartier are in and of themselves highly collectible - to find one boasting such an extraordinary provenance is truly one-in-a-lifetime. The octagonal platter is inscribed in the center, "Presented to Joe DiMaggio 'The Yankee Clipper' On the Occasion of his 70th birthday with Congratulations and Deep Gratitude from the New York Yankees Nov. 25, 1984". The exquisite piece comes complete with its original box. Stamped "Cartier" Measures: 13 1/2" high x 13 1/2" wide.
