Old print of the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, as it was between 1794 and 1809 showing the tiers of boxes stage left and the chandelier-lit auditorium with a small party of visitors standing in one of the boxes, as if being shown around.
The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, commonly known as Drury Lane, is a West End theatre and Grade I listed building in Covent Garden, London, England. The building faces Catherine Street (earlier named Bridges or Brydges Street) and backs onto Drury Lane. The building is the most recent in a line of four theatres which were built at the same location, the earliest of which dated back to 1663, making it the oldest theatre site in London still in use. According to the author Peter Thomson, for its first two centuries, Drury Lane could "reasonably have claimed to be London's leading theatre". For most of that time, it was one of a handful of patent theatres, granted monopoly rights to the production of "legitimate" drama in London (meaning spoken plays, rather than opera, dance, concerts, or plays with music).
The first theatre on the site was built at the behest of Thomas Killigrew in the early 1660s, when theatres were allowed to reopen during the English Restoration. A very interesting 1825 French hand-colored map of Pennsylvania from Lucas' 1822 map, which breaks down county populations by Whites and Free Blacks. "Carte Geographique, Statistique et Historique de la Pensylvanie" Originally published in 1822 by Carey and Lea and then revised and republished in 1825 by J. A. C. Buchon (1791-1846 ) in a French edition entitled Atlas Geographique des Deux Ameriques, printed by J. Carez. Fielding Lucas, Jr. (1781-1854), a Baltimore mapmaker and publisher, drew the map. original hand-coloring.
Shown on the map are parts of Maryland, Delaware, New York and New jersey. Mortar made of bronze with an enlarged mouth and a cone shaped body developed without discontinuity and with a decreasing diameter to the base; It has two handles or "pieces" towards the smooth decorative moldings that it has on the upper part. The piece presents, almost on the edge, an inscription (I AM FROM D GREGORIO OCANA ANO DE 1823) in capital letters and a date in roman with spaces between them; and the text (the other way around) “Mazon fecci”; both flanked by a simple molding above and another below.
This large-sized mortar is of the type that is usually known as "hospital" because it is usually used for medicines in environments with many patients or in important apothecaries. Typologically, it follows the usual line in these examples of the Spanish school during the 19th century: smooth, with moldings and, as a general rule, without those ribs (or derivatives thereof) that used to appear in the previous ones.
