Pair of 'LC2' Leather Club Chairs by Le Corbusier for Cassina, c 1970s, Signed

About the Item

This incredibly comfortable pair of early year production examples of the Le Corbusier for Cassina 'LC2' club chairs (authentic signed examples, see pics) in its original gorgeous thick and supple Italian cognac color leather are in beautiful vintage condition and ready to be immediately placed in your home or office. The LC2 was designed in 1928 by Le Corbusier; his cousin and colleague Pierre Jeanneret; and Charlotte Perriand. Produced by Cassina from 1965 to today, these authentic examples are embossed on the frames with model number, production serial numbers, Le Corbusier's signature and Cassina logo. The seat cushions have (underneath) Cassina and Atelier International (AI) labels. These examples produced circa mid 1970s to early 1980s based on construction details. What is special about this pair is that they are early year models distributed by Atelier International (AI) who distributed for Cassina in the 1970s and early 1980s before they changed ownership in mid 1980s. Couple the fact that these are considered "original production" years of the design, they are all original - meaning the leather is original, the frames too of course, and even the labels underneath are still there in perfect order like they were saved in a time capsule. Top it all off with the incredible condition of this pair of LC2 examples - the beautiful very lightly aged leather is soft and supple, and a small but just enough amount of patina in a light and attractive manner. For those who love the casual relaxed feel of aged quality leather in an all original early year collectors pieces, this pair of LC2's are for you. The incredible quality thick leather are wrapped by quality tubular chrome frames that are still shiny and bright. These fantastic 'LC2' lounge chairs are suitable for interior designers working on luxury interiors and modern design collectors and art investors looking for prime examples of collectible design. The gorgeous thick leather is of the quality you can expect from Italian maker Cassina. These elegant and sophisticated LC2 armchairs by Le Corbusier for Cassina would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Bauhaus, Scandanavian Modern or Danish modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Post-Modern room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an Apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Consider using as bedside chairs, fireside chairs, dressing or changing room chairs, hallway chairs, entryway or mudroom chairs, nursing or reading chairs, conference room chairs, guest chairs on the opposite side of your desk, lobby chairs or occasional chairs ideal in virtually any setting. More About the Design (From Cassina's website): Fauteuil Grand Confort, petit modèle Armchair, two- and three-seater sofas and pouf with polished chrome or painted steel frame in the LC colour palette. Separate cushions upholstered in fabric or leather. LC2 is a timeless model, which has made design history. Designed in 1928 and exhibited at the Salon d’Automne in Paris in 1929, it is the archetypal armchair in the new and modern conception of furnishings understood as “domestic equipment”, re-issued by Cassina and produced exclusively since 1965. The separation of the metal frame and the cushions expresses a rationalist approach to industrial production. (From Wikipedia) Grand Comfort is a cube-shaped high armchair, whose leather cushions are held in a chrome-plated steel corset. The LC-2 and LC-3 were referred as Cusion Baskets by Le Corbusier. They are more colloquially referred to as the petit confort and grand confort due to their respective sizes. In popular culture: The LC-2 (and similar LC-3) have been featured in a variety of media, notably the Maxell "blown away" advertisement. At the 2010 Apple event, the then CEO Steve Jobs used a Classic LC-3 chair while introducing the iPad. They are a permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art. In the modern day BBC adaptation of Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock), Sherlock Holmes sits in a LC-3, while Dr. Watson sits in a traditional Club chair. MEASUREMENTS: H 27" x W 30" x D 27.5" Seat Height: 18.5" Seat Depth: 19" CONDITION: Very good vintage condition. Frames are clean, sturdy and structurally sound. Mario Bellini for Cassina 'Cab 414' Leather Lounge Chair, Signed, circa 1980s
By Cassina, Mario Bellini
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A beautiful black leather Mario Bellini Cab lounge chair, Model #414, signed Cassina, designed in the 1970s. These fine examples of the cab line by Mario Bellini for Cassina are classic staples for luxury interior designers and collectors alike, these lounge variations of the design are larger and deeper than the similar dining armchair, and have the addition of the seat cushion. Signed underneath with Cassina embossing to the leather. Mario Bellini described the 1970s bestselling design for the Cab collection as “This was a new kind of chair, constructed totally out of leather, much cloned since then.” and is now a signature piece in Cassina’s Contemporanei collection. Cab was the first-ever chair to feature a free-standing leather structure, inspired by how our skin fits over our skeleton. The upholstery consists of sixteen pieces of saddle leather. They then undergo fourteen discrete procedures, again by hand. The pieces are sewn together only when their outer edges have been trimmed to ensure a perfect fit. Once assembled, the cover is attached to the chair’s steel skeleton and held in place by means of a zipper fastening as in a bespoke tailored...
