Early Year LC2 Black Leather Three-Seat Sofa by Le Corbusier for Cassina, Signed

About the Item

This incredibly comfortable Le Corbusier for Cassina 'LC2' three-seat sofa (authentic signed and earlier year production example with low number production number stamped on the frame) in gorgeous thick Italian black leather on black frame is in beautiful vintage condition with light to moderate naturally aged leather patina and ready to be immediately placed in your home or office. *Note, we also have the matching pair of LC2 club lounge chairs available in another listing, photos of the chairs are included in the photo gallery of this listing. The LC2 was designed in 1928 by Le Corbusier; his cousin and colleague Pierre Jeanneret; and Charlotte Perriand. Produced by Cassina from 1965 to today, this authentic early year collectors example is stamped on the frame with Cassina model number and production number. This particular style of signature correspond to Cassina's earlier years of production, also demonstrated through the very low production number as current year examples are much higher, this sofa estimated to be produced in circa 1974 to 1982. Ideal collectors example, perfect for those who love early year "originals" with a good amount of (but not too much) patina. Incredible quality thick and supple black leather wrapped by quality tubular black frame, this fantastic LC2/3 three seat couch is suitable for interior designers working on luxury interiors and modern design collectors and art investors who seek earlier year examples. The gorgeous thick black leather is of the quality you can expect from Italian maker Cassina. This elegant and sophisticated LC-2 sofa by Le Corbusier for Cassina would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Bauhaus, Scandanavian Modern or Danish modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Post-Modern room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an Apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Consider using as bedside chairs, fireside chairs, dressing or changing room chairs, hallway chairs, entryway or mudroom chairs, nursing or reading chairs, conference room chairs, guest chairs on the opposite side of your desk, lobby chairs or occasional chairs ideal in virtually any setting. More About the Design (From Cassina's website): Fauteuil Grand Confort, petit modèle Armchair, two- and three-seater sofas and pouf with polished chrome or painted steel frame in the LC colour palette. Separate cushions upholstered in fabric or leather. LC2 is a timeless model, which has made design history. Designed in 1928 and exhibited at the Salon d’Automne in Paris in 1929, it is the archetypal armchair in the new and modern conception of furnishings understood as “domestic equipment”, re-issued by Cassina and produced exclusively since 1965. The separation of the metal frame and the cushions expresses a rationalist approach to industrial production. (From Wikipedia) Grand Comfort is a cube-shaped high armchair, whose leather cushions are held in a chrome-plated steel corset. The LC-2 and LC-3 were referred as Cusion Baskets by Le Corbusier. They are more colloquially referred to as the petit confort and grand confort due to their respective sizes. In popular culture: The LC-2 (and similar LC-3) have been featured in a variety of media, notably the Maxell "blown away" advertisement. At the 2010 Apple event, the then CEO Steve Jobs used a Classic LC-3 chair while introducing the iPad. They are a permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art. In the modern day BBC adaptation of Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock), Sherlock Holmes sits in a LC-3, while Dr. Watson sits in a traditional Club chair. MEASUREMENTS: H 27.25" x W 71" x D 27.25" Seat Height: 19" Seat Depth: 21" CONDITION: Good vintage condition. Vladimir Kagan for Grosfeld House Rare Four-Seat Sculptural Sofa, 1950s
By Vladimir Kagan, Grosfeld House
Located in Los Angeles, CA
An extremely rare collectors piece, this large 99.5 inch wide four-seat sculptural sofa by Vladimir Kagan for Grosfeld House, designed and produced within the 1950s in the United States, is fully original including its original fabric and sculptural walnut base, and is documented in early Grosfeld House advertisements. Coming from the original single owner's estate along with an entire set of 1950s Vladimir Kagan for Grosfeld House furniture and a pair of Kagan-Dreyfuss (also 1950s) caned armchairs. As you can see in the photos, the set includes this sofa, a swivel lounge chair, set of nesting tables, caned cabinet, desk (now sold), desk chair and pair of caned armchairs (by Kagan-Dreyfuss). Contact us for more details on the other items available if you wish to create a set. Vladimir Kagan's works have been highly valued by collectors and art / design investors, and his earlier works in the 1950s for Grosfeld House and Kagan-Dreyfuss are among the most sought after by 'purist collectors' like myself. Why do I prize his 1950s works above all else? I can write a short book on this, but one easy to explain reason is that this was a period unlike the rest of his career, where items produced in this time are hallmarked within that period - a distinction that his later works lacked. Essentially, everything post the early 60s blended together with the decades thereafter. A novice Kagan collector is content with anything by Kagan, even items produced by Directional and American Leather Company...
