French Mid-Century Ceramic Vase by Atelier du Grand Chêne (circa 1950s) - Small
By Le Grand Chêne 1
Located in London, GB
French vintage ceramic vase by Atelier du Grand Chêne (circa 1950s). Painted with the image of a woman whose body conforms to the contour of the piece on one side and, on the other, a tulip whose long stem mimics that of the woman's neck. The ceramic is small in stature but large in charm and, at the same time, possesses a low-key sophistication reflecting the talents of the ceramicists who were initially trained as painters in Paris. The piece is in very good overall condition notwithstanding an almost invisible chip where the body meets the base. Maker's mark on the underside. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying the listing. Upon request a video will be provided. About the Artist: L'Atelier du Grand Chêne was founded in Vallauris, France in 1948 by Odette Roche-Gourju (1904-1954) and Ljuba Naumovitch (1898-1955). These two painters, trained notably at the Paris Ecole des Arts Décoratifs, turned out to be excellent potters after the war. They set up their pottery near a large oak tree - hence the name 'Le Grand Chêne...

Fine Gilt-Bronze and Champlevé Enamel Garniture Set, circa 1890
Located in Brighton, West Sussex
A fine gilt bronze and Champlevé Enamel Garniture Set comprising a pair of candelabra and a brûle-parfum and cover. French, circa 1890. The brûle -parfum or censor with a domed champlevé enamel lid above a gilt bronze pierced guilloche border with ram's head mounts supported by a baluster column flanked by seated putti finely cast with musical instruments on a circular base. The candelabra en suite having a pair of of putti figures supporting candlearms with circular champlevé enamel drip trays and sconces. Champlevé enamelling, is similar to cloisonné in that the enamel is applied to discrete cells separated by metal. However, in champlevé, cells or troughs are cast into or cut away from the metal base, leaving a raised metal line between the cells which forms the outline of a design. The cells are then filled with molten or powdered glass and fired. Height of central vase: 25 cm Width of central vase: 15 cm...

Rare Riessner and Kessel Amphora Ceramic Art Nouveau Pottery Basket
Located in Belfast, Northern Ireland
Rare Riessner and Kessel Amphora Ceramic Art Nouveau Pottery Basket A charming and unusual piece from the well known ceramic factory Amphora of Riessner & Kessel in Turn-Teplitz. Made in the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the area called Bohemia, now referred to as the Czech Republic. In the form of a basket shape decorated with simulated ‘jewels’ of color. It displays a number of stamps and factory marks: Austria, a circular mark with double headed eagle which states Imperial Amphora and an impressed crown. It has two different Slavic townscapes including city walls and magical rooftops on each facade along with numerous star motifs depicted in different enamel colors. The firm’s most important works were made between 1894 and 1904, they were almost all in the Art Nouveau style with plants, animals, mythical creatures and, as in this case, an uncommon and desirable romantic medieval Bohemian landscape. A very quant and rare collector’s item or unique home accessory. Would go with many of our vintage and antique one-of-a-kind cushions and pillows. A subpart ornament paired...
