Mid-Century French Ceramic Apothecary Jar by Albert Thiry 'circa 1960s'

About the Item

Mid-century French ceramic apothecary jar by Albert Thiry (circa 1960s). A delightful piece with Thiry's signature style, chalk-white base with blue thistle and foliage painted motif. A charming bell-shaped cover tops the piece in a creamy white with a subtle, calming green on the outer brim and repeats at the base of the ceramic. In good overall condition. Maker's mark appears on the clay covered underside. Upon request, a video may be provided. Please see the many accompanying photos of the piece in this listing. About the Artist: Albert Thiry (1932-2009) was born in Nice, France. His family moved to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian. Dimensions: H (with cover) 23 cm / 9.1" Dia 13 cm / 5.1".
