About Hongshan Culture:
The Hongshan culture was a Neolithic culture in northeastern China. Hongshan sites have been found in an area stretching from Inner Mongolia to Liaoning, and dated from about 4700-2900 BC. The culture is named after Hongshanhou, a site in Hongshan District, Chifeng. The Hongshanhou site was discovered by the Japanese archaeologist Torii Ryuzo in 1908 and extensively excavated in 1935 by Kosaku Hamada and Mizuno Seiichi.

A glazed hollow ceramic roof tile finial of the Naga/Makara Dragon design having a robust chest supported by front talons and his upright bearded head with open mouth bearing his pointed teeth, further decorated in iron brown under glaze painted highlights, covered in a cream white transparent glaze. From North-Central Thailand, Sukhothai Kingdom, a 15th century sculptural architectural ornament, high-fired glazed stoneware roof tile for decorating and elaborately embellishing the roof of a Thai temple, which was generally constructed of wood and therefore long perished, leaving the remains of the roof tiles, such as this finial. Ming Period Large Pottery Horse with Saddle (15-16th Century)

This Ming Dynasty painted pottery horse is depicted standing on a tiered rectangular pedestal. The horse has a well-proportioned body, with sturdy legs and a slightly arched neck. The eyes and muzzle are subtly outlined and incised.
The mane is sculpted with deep, parallel grooves. The tail is long and slightly curved left, extending downward. The saddle is prominently featured at the center of the horse’s back, detailed with a raised, rounded seat and an attached stirrup hanging down one side. The saddlecloth is textured with a crosshatch pattern, bordered by a row of carved fringe-like elements. The horse's legs display subtle musculature, and the hooves are clearly defined, with black pigment accentuating their edges.
The original painted pigments, including white, black, and ochre, are still visible, though faded in some areas. The black pigment highlights the mane, tail, and parts of the bridle, while the ochre tones accentuate the saddle and decorative elements.

A squat globular stoneware body of good size having a narrow upright neck and everted mouth. The short narrow spout has the shape of an imagined frog snout. The modeled details include bulging eyes, ridge lines demarcating the spine, outline of the trunk and the legs with small webbed feet. The pot is glazed overall in a rich brown glaze lightly pitted from burial which stops short of the well trimmed foot rim revealing the beige colored biscuit.
Condition: Excellent with no knowledge or evidence of any restorations.
Age: 13th/14th century.
Size: 5.5 inches high x 5.5 inches in diameter (14 x 14cm).
