Set of 4 unique, antique plates was made by Haviland & Cie in Limoges, France. The plates were hand painted by a professional artist in a decorating studio with Art Deco motif of five water lilies on pale blue background. Calm blue and green colors are accentuated by bright yellow centers of the flowers and the gold rims. (1896–1917) Thomas Clarke Wild joined his father, Thomas Wild, in the purchase of the Albert Works, Longton in 1895, and the partnership manufactured bone china teaware as Thomas C. Wild & Co. Wild became sole proprietor on the death of his father in 1898 and from 1905 to 1917 the business traded simply as ‘Thomas C. Wild’. The St Mary’s Works, Longton, was purchased from Bernard Moore in 1905 and used initially for decoration of the products manufactured at the nearby Albert Works. Each vase is of large size, with a baluster form body densely encrusted with clusters of small applied flowers arranged to resemble snowballs. Green vine-like stems and leaves wind around the surface, adding depth to the composition. The bodies are raised on spreading circular bases decorated with the same clustered blossoms and foliage. Pierced sections with latticework detail are present, incorporating floral sprays and framing small enclosed bird cages, each containing a modeled bird within. Applied birds are positioned throughout the vases, with lifelike natural coloration.
