Vintage Red Beni MGuild Rug with Hidden Pattern, Midcentury Meets Cozy Nomad
Located in Dallas, TX
20378 Vintage Red Beni MGuild Moroccan Rug, 06'03 x 08'04. Step into the enchanting realm of this hand-knotted wool vintage Beni MGuild Moroccan rug, where the captivating interplay of geometric patterns and fiery red hues beckons you to explore its unique allure. Within the gradient strokes of red, a dynamic diamond pattern subtly emerges, with intricately woven smaller diamonds nestled within larger ones, forming the rug's primary motif. Beneath its seemingly simple beauty lies a tapestry rich in meaning and cultural significance. In the ancient traditions of Berber rug-making, the diamond takes on a special role, serving as a symbol predictive of pregnancy—an emblem of reproduction and femininity commonly found in Berber pieces. Delving beyond the surface, hidden symbols within the border add an additional layer of meaning. Discreet "X" shapes symbolize the open arms and legs of a woman ready to conceive, while "V" shapes represent the woman's opened thighs. These subtle yet profound details infuse the rug with depth, turning it into more than just a visually striking piece but a testament to the cultural richness woven into its very fibers. As the sands of time gracefully dance upon this Moroccan rug, brushed by the gentle footsteps of wanderers, a magical transformation unfolds. With each step, a whimsical tale of tribal symbols comes to life, revealing its true beauty in a spellbinding dance. Sprinkled with the enchanting dust of the ancients, this rug weaves a captivating narrative, inviting you to witness the gradual emergence of its mystical patterns as if guided by the invisible hand of a fairy tale. Rendered in variegated shades of red, charcoal and beige...

New Southwest Canyon Modern Moroccan Rug, 09'00 x 12'03
Located in Dallas, TX
31304 New Southwest Boho Canyon Modern Moroccan Rug, 09'00 x 12'03. This hand knotted wool Southwest Boho Canyon Modern Moroccan rug is a harmonious blend of Bohemian Rhapsody and Southwest-inspired aesthetics. The composition of this Moroccan area rug features a soft, inviting color palette that includes warm earth tones, such as sandy beige, terra cotta, sky blue, and light yellow. The colors effortlessly weave together to create a serene and enchanting landscape, evoking the natural beauty of sun-soaked canyons and desert sunsets. At the heart of the rug, diamond medallions take center stage, their geometric precision enhanced by delicate spiked-like details. Surrounding these central lozenges are smaller, yet equally captivating, geometric shapes that resemble the flora of the Southwest, subtly hinting at cacti and desert flora. The intricate design is further accentuated by the delicate use of open space, allowing the individual elements to breathe and come together in a balanced composition. The diamond border of the rug adds an extra layer of charm with a sequence of repeating lozenge motifs, each one slightly varied in color, creating a rhythmic pattern that draws the eye around the edges. This thoughtful design not only frames the Moroccan-style rug but also contributes to the overall cohesiveness of the piece, making it a versatile addition to any space. The Moroccan area rug’s texture is soft yet durable, ideal for high-traffic areas, while still maintaining an air of laid-back luxury and quiet sophistication. Perfect for those who appreciate the blend of Southwest Bohemian and Contemporary Santa Fe...

Antique and Vintage Moroccan Rugs for Sale on 1stDibs: Find Beni Ourain Rugs, Azilal Rugs, Kilims and More

Antique and vintage Moroccan rugs serve as an exceptional piece of decor. Whether it’s to tie your bedroom together or to add a dazzling array of colors and graphically provocative shapes and other elements to your living room wall, there’s increased demand for all types of Moroccan tribal rugs, especially as bohemian, global and eco styles are on the rise and because tapestries and wall hangings are definitely cool again.

Travelers and interior design lovers from all over the world are big fans of the complex geometric patterns and bold color palettes that we typically associate with rustic, natural Moroccan and North African rugs.

In the West, the current infatuation with handwoven vintage Moroccan tribal rugs stretches to the mid-20th century. Then, designers such as Alvar Aalto, Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier offset austere interiors with vibrant and alluring mid-century modern Moroccan rugs. (Le Corbusier integrated these rugs in his designs for Villa La Roche in Paris, while Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater in Pennsylvania is also home to distinctive Moroccan floor coverings.)

Moroccan rugs date back to the Paleolithic era, when Berber tribes, which comprised many different members of an ethnic group native to North Africa, would weave these textiles with intricate images and symbols. Traditionally, Moroccan tribal weavings were made exclusively by women and solely for personal use. Dense pile rugs served not only as floor coverings but as mattresses, seating and even blankets in the winter months.

The Moroccan rug hasn’t survived this long merely because of its usefulness. These stunning works take at least two to three weeks to weave, and each woman weaves the story of her life into the design. They are filled with symbolism and vary greatly depending on the locale where they were woven. In this way, part of the profound beauty of traditional Moroccan rugs lies in their historical and cultural significance.

One of the most widely loved styles of Moroccan rugs comes from the Beni Ourain tribes, a network of nearly two dozen individual tribes in the mountainous Middle Atlas region.

Vintage Beni Ourain rugs are woven from undyed, natural wool. The textures, imperfections and asymmetrical lines, which can’t be reproduced with mass production methods, as well as the neutral tones and understated geometry have endeared interior designers to these works for ages. In comparison to the spare Beni Ourain rugs, a more heavily decorated, widely colorful option can be found in Azilal Moroccan rugs, which contrast wonderfully with the rich, dark wood tones and clean lines that characterize mid-century modern furniture.

The collection of antique and vintage rugs and carpets on 1stDibs features a wide range of extraordinary Moroccan and North African rugs including Beni Ourain rugs, Azilal rugs, kilims and more.
