About the Item

This set of six signed early-year-examples of Knoll International 'Brno' Chairs are in an incredible thick black leather in fantastic vintage condition and ideal for collectors and interior designers looking for the perfect set. These collectible early productions by Knoll International have an attractive and lovely patina to the leather and are signed and dated 1975 with Knoll International labels. We have other examples in black so if you need a larger set please contact us to discuss. This is an excellent opportunity for the distinguished collector, designer or client who wishes to have a set of signed original and authentic Brno chairs by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe - and the incredible craftsmanship that was the original Knoll International. Don't make the mistake of buying a new reproduction Brno chair from Knoll when you can buy the collectors ones - these original examples from Knoll International are far better than new version currently produced. Although at least the Knoll reproductions are authentic licensed production. We highly suggest avoiding altogether buying fakes, including the Gordon International or Brueton production examples, despite what some dealers may try to tell you, they are not authentic and not considered a collectors piece like the original early production Knoll Associates and Knoll International versions like this set. As most collectors are aware, the Brno chair is one of the most highly copied of Mid-Century Modern designs - so why would anyone buy an unmarked Brno chair? Yet much of the inventory you'll find online and in galleries are either unmarked versions (which can often indicate that it is an unlicensed copy) or recent reproductions. Current new Knoll reproductions cost over $4,000 per chair and have a 12 week lead time and these lack the collectibility of early production originals like this set, and also lack the beautiful patina that's developed over decades of light aging. And most of the available vintage sets are unsigned, so you don't really know what you are going to get - maybe its Knoll and maybe its not, it's a roll of the dice - don't take the dealers word for it - we see more incorrectly listed Brno chairs than we see correctly listed ones. If you are a collector, designer or client who wishes the best of the best - and to have items that are unmistakingly originals of classic designs... don't settle for new reproductions or unmarked used inventory... consider the long term investment value of this set vs the other options available. And don't just take the dealers word for it - make sure you see the label before you make the purchase. This set of Brno armchairs feature an elegant Silhouette of slender proportions, comprising of a hefty stainless steel cantilevered frames in very good, bright and clean condition and upholstered with the original thick black leather in good vintage condition with light and attractive patina, this set is ready to be used immediately in your high-end designer project. This exemplary set of arm chairs could work wonderfully in a dining room or an executive conference or meeting room, or with an executive desk as guest or side chairs in a corporate or creative office - or in a design studio or showroom lobby, even consider for hospitality locations, would be a phenomenal option for a restaurant, cafe, members club, lobby lounge, hotel lobby or cocktail bar. Consider using as dining armchairs, side chairs, cafe or breakfast table chairs, bedside chair, fireside chair, dressing or changing room chair, hallway chair, entryway or mudroom chair, nursing or reading chair, conference room chairs, office or desk chair, guest chairs, lobby chairs, lounge chairs or occasional chairs ideal in virtually any setting. The simple understated Classic design of this chair allows you to pair it with most styles of decor, from Mid-Century Modern to Contemporary to Traditional. Designers - pitch this to your client before your competition does, so your client gets an authentic, signed early production example of Fine Classic design. More about The Brno Chair An icon of 20th century design, the Brno chair was designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1930 for his renowned Tugendhat House in Brno, Czech Republic. A singular Flat Bar Brno chair was included in the master bedroom of the house and as a result was not put into production. Unlike the Tubular Brno chairs of which there were 24 examples of. In 1958 Phillip Johnson put in a request to Knoll for the Flat Bar Brno chair as he intended on using the design for furbishing the Four Seasons restaurant. After some revisions Knoll reintroduced the chair and are still being made to this day. Set of 6 Channel-Tufted Post-Modern Dining Chairs by Finesse, 1970s, Signed
By Steve Chase
Located in Los Angeles, CA
An intriguing and rare set of six vintage dining chairs by Finesse Furniture Ltd., comprised of four side chairs and two armchairs (also known as captain’s chairs). These sculptural, channel-tufted chairs exemplify 1970s Postmodern glamour and offer strong visual appeal with their plush, modular upholstery and cantilevered brass bases. The label from Finesse Furniture Ltd is intact and present on five of the six of the chairs. The distinct silhouette of these chairs defined by stacked, contoured cushions and bold lines recalls the maximalist interiors popularized by designers like Steve Chase, while their construction and proportions also nod to the Art Deco revival and Hollywood Regency influences of the late 1970s and early 1980s. The unique design invites creative reupholstery: each channel-tufted section could be re-covered in contrasting tones or textures for a highly personalized, expressive look. These chairs would pair beautifully with a high-gloss lacquered or burl wood dining table, or a round glass or travertine-top table for a more eclectic aesthetic. This sculptural set of dining chairs by Finesse Furniture Ltd would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Postmodern, or Hollywood Regency interior, but could also add a splash of glam to a Contemporary, Transitional, or even Art Deco inspired home or penthouse apartment. Also consider mixing them in with a Traditional or Minimalist space for a bold juxtaposition. Ideal for a commercial project such as a hotel dining room, members club, or design studio showroom. Consider using as dining chairs, cafe or breakfast table chairs, side chairs, conference or meeting room chairs...
