Located in Barrington, IL
Native American Navajo Rug in Eye Dazzler Pattern in ivory, burgundy, brown, gray and black colors from the SW United States from the early 1900s. This Navajo rug is in a geometric design consisting of three rows of different size diamond forms in beautiful natural earth tone colors. It has a very fine weave and it is in a wonderful condition.
Navajo rugs are generally flat woven with wool for the body of the rug and usually cotton foundation. Navajo weavers use natural organic dyes that are available around their tribal land. The Navajo rugs have geometric designs and the design and symbols have religious and cultural meanings.

The design and the color scheme of this Serapi is very desirable especially having a pale yellow/ivory field color which is very rare. In addition, the wonderful navy blue and pink center medallion, and corner spandrels add to the unique beauty of the rug. The Serapi rug has an open field design and beautiful natural colors including French Blue, yellow, pink, and navy blue in the corners and throughout the field. A navy blue border frames this beautiful carpet from the late 1900s.

The ends have been finished in a kilim (flatweave) with the signature of the workshop. The rug is in a new excellent condition.

A very rare Persian sofreh tribal Kilim from the mid 1900s. The handwoven tribal kilim is from the Qashqai tribes in Southwest Persia. It is a very desirable square-size tribal kilim with natural organic dyes. The sofreh kilim was mostly woven by the tribes for their own use and therefore the number of such items is extremely limited. It would be used mainly at mealtime to put the serving dishes on them and the folks would sit around it. It would not be walked on and therefore it would stay clean and in good condition for an extended period. It is a beautiful piece of functional tribal weaving and is in wonderful condition.

A very rare “near square" Indian Agra masterpiece from the late 1800s or early 1900s. This beautiful Agra rug is in all-over Herati design set in dark brown-black field colors. Design color elements include pistachio green, red, pink, and saffron yellow. The combination is truly majestic. The primary border color is a rich saffron yellow with a ram's horn design throughout the border in cream, brown, and red colors. The field color in this Agra rug is a unique “abrash” dark brown or a pistachio green color which over time has turned to a darker shade of green with elements of red and pink in the design. It is also very unique in being almost square in size.

The kilim is a flat woven rug so both sides of the rug can be used. The vintage kilims tend to have a lighter side (the side that has been exposed to light over the years) and one with the darker colors.

The field has a Mogul court favorite design elements including the cypress trees, birds, and flowers. The cypress tree is considered a universal symbol of immortality and was often used in the weaving of Persian and Indian rugs of the 16th-18th centuries. This Agra rug has a very tight weave and wonderful lush wool with a beautiful palette of colors including green, blue, red, and saffron yellow. The rug has a cream/light yellow color field and a gorgeous saffron color primary border with a design of leaves and branches. Truly a gem of design. Finally, this rug has the same design as SKU 1694, which is very rare to find two vintage rugs with identical design.
