A beautiful Chinese Peking oversized rug from the late 1800s. The rug has a very unique and beautiful pale yellow color with an open design. The design in the field consists of a large medallion with lion dogs surrounded by cloud wreaths. The rug has a very similar design to a Ningxia rug. Ningxia is a ‘wool town’ in north-central China, bordering Gansu and Inner Mongolia. Carpets have been made there since at least the early 17th century for local sale and for use in mandarin and aristocratic houses in China proper.

Beautiful room-size Persian Bidjar (Bijar) from the early 1900s in an allover “Herati” pattern set in a midnight blue color background with design accents in cream, blue, pink, and red. The primary border is in rust color with geometric designs in yellow, pink, blue, and cream. The Bidjar rugs are known as “the Persian iron” rugs because of their very tight weave and they often weigh two to three times as much as similar size rugs from other regions.

Wonderful example of Persian "Ziegler" Mahal Sultanabad rugs from the late 1800s in a dark blue field and a white wide border filled with large geometric and floral forms. The rug has an all-over design pattern which Ziegler rugs are known for. The renowned Ziegler company had set up operations in the 19th century in Persia to create its own special design and colors intended for the European markets. It excelled in all the steps including acquiring the best wool and use of vegetable dyes in addition to contracting some of the best weavers to create wonderful rugs.
