Is Odilon Redon a Surrealist?

1 Answer
Is Odilon Redon a Surrealist?
No, Odilon Redon is not a Surrealist. Although he is famous for producing paintings with a dream-like quality reminiscent of Surrealism, he was active before the start of the Surrealist movement, which emerged following World War I. As a result, most art historians consider him a Symbolist and a precursor to the Surrealists. Find an assortment of Odilon Redon art on 1stDibs.
