What do ants symbolize to Dalí?
1 Answer

To Dalí, ants symbolized decay, destruction and death. Reportedly, he associated the insects with these themes because he observed ants feasting on the remains of dead animals as a child. One of the artist's best-known depictions of ants is The Ants, a gouache collage that he produced in 1929. Shop a collection of surrealist art from some of the world’s top galleries on 1stDibs.
