Donatello is famous for his work as a sculptor and was one of the key figures of the Italian Renaissance. Inspired by antiquity, his lifelike sculptures marked a major departure from the highly stylized works of the Middle Ages and influenced the work of many subsequent artists, including Michelangelo.
