What is the difference between Chiavari and Tiffany chairs?

The difference between Chiavari and Tiffany chairs is a matter of terminology. These two names refer to the same type of chair but have different origins. Chiavari comes from the name of the Italian village where the original designer of the chair, Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi, was born. How the chairs came to be called Tiffany chairs is not as clear, but it was likely inspired by the name of the luxury jewelry maker Tiffany & Co. The association may be due to the fact that Chiavari chairs are often used at weddings and Tiffany's is a leading producer of bridal jewelry, or because, like the jewelry house, the chairs inspire thoughts of sophistication and luxury.
