What was Sir Peter Blake famous for?

Hand printed silkscreen print, numbered and signed by Sir Peter Blake. The original photograph for the cover was taken at Michale Cooper's Flood Street Studio in Chelsea on March 30th 1967. The copyright of the photo remains with Apple, the Beatles management company. In 2007, after 40 years of trying, Peter Blake managed to get the Beatles to agree to publish a limited edition of 500 silkscreen prints on 410gsm Somerset cotton linter archive fine art paper medium, with the sheet size being 27 inches high by 26.25 inches wide. The image size being 19.5 inches square. Archival pigment inks were used with specialist glazing and an additional spot varnishing. 29 screens were hand applied to print the edition, being 27 colours plus 2 glazes. Every print bears the Apple logo embossed in the bottom centre. Published by Pete Smith of Pierre Optique, who negotiated the rights, Peter Blake was paid £10 for each signature and allowed to keep the 50 Artists Proofs. No 499 and No 500/500 were purchased by the Saint Giles Street Gallery and No 499 was embellished on the mount with original ticket stubs, bubblegum cards, official SPLHCB stamps issued by the Royal Mail along with other sundry paper ephemera and sent to Dublin to the Leinster Gallery to form part of their Unseen Beatles Show of Frank Herrmann...

This is a metallic AA road sign used to direct traffic to parking. In keeping with Blake's idea of 'Found Art', in which he uses art found in streets, rubbish dumps, antique shops and discarded items, turning them into works of art, this was an original road sign used for Blake's 2008 exhibition at The Saint Giles Gallery in Norwich and found by a customer and returned to the gallery during the show. Blake came to the closing of the show rather than the opening where he signed the sign. This is a unique item. One off. Heralded as the ‘Godfather of Pop Art’, Sir Peter Blake was knighted in 2002 for his invaluable contribution to contemporary art. ' The legendary Peter Blake, the father of British Pop Art, is renowned for his love of gathering and collecting the ephemera of life, of memories, of dreams and whimsies, sometimes mingled with those of other historical fantasists. Possessions he regards as symbolic of his relationships with his world, carefully questioning the personal significance of each object in this respect. The scraps of tickets, fragments of plastic, driftwood, pebbles and sycamore leaf in A Walk Through the Tuileries gardens are evocative and ephemeral souvenirs, gathered at the time and collated later perhaps with a whiff of romance. His image takes us, in turn, on a stroll down the wide gravel, under the autumnal trees, a lingering taste of saucisson and red wine on our palate and with a sudden impulse to take a turn on the Caroussel.
