About the Item

In the latest series, inspired by media, pop culture, and film Jantzen takes Neo-pointillism to the next level utilizing thousands collection of photography, cinematographic stills, and other collected material encapsulated in glass spheres; hiding and revealing a subject filtered idealized world through the eye of the beholder and depicting the banality of our society and trends in symbolic evocation of a contemporary human journey. The artist is not in-terested in fragmentation of objects in the real world; he is interested in disclosing the unity underlying “reality.” Jantzen goes beyond telling a one image story and depicting a voyeuristic look into another world(s) and reality. With large scale images built up out of hundreds of small image; stories encapsulated in glass spheres the work simply keeps repeating to the viewers “The closer you look, the less you see.”

Torre Velasca

Urbex is the English acronym for urban exploration and is an activity that consists of searching for and locating abandoned infrastructure with the goal of visiting, photographing and conveying its contents, with particular involvement of methodologies from geography, anthropology, sociology to cultural studies. Her works have been in the past approached to the works of Anselm Kiefer (b. 1945) and Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1770), but in Gullotta's paintings the absence of color makes the spaces particularly ethereal, allowing them to be ideally lifted to new places and to new life. Chasing the Light
Located in Bozeman, MT
Like the Westerns I grew up with, my own work is camouflaged in a veil of nostalgia. The figures in my work are often portrayed against a stark background. This forces the viewer to recognize the myth before the critique exposes itself. I work from observation and my imagination using watercolor and traditional printmaking methods. The figurative images I create are heavily researched. By using the West, a subject that I am both familiar with and continue to question, I aim to engage with our inherent perceptions of the past and the myths embedded within. - Jed Webster Smith
