About the Item

Eleanor Jones Harvey, Chief Curator at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, writes about Bob Stuth-Wade: “Over the course of his career, Bob Stuth-Wade has examined his responses to life through landscape, still life, portraiture, and abstraction. Restlessly creative, he has explored these varied genres with equal concentration…..” Bob Stuth-Wade’s method of painting is uniquely his own, having taught himself technique; his only formal training was as a teenager with Dallas artist Perry Nichols. His process often entails the creation of an initial ‘energy’ study in artist-made charcoal, several works on paper, and a large detailed painting of the same subject. Each step in the process enriches his understanding of his subject. Bob Stuth-Wade was invited to participate in the Artists’ Fellowship Programme, at The Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Ballycastle, North County Mayo, Republic of Ireland, in 2006. About this body of work, Bob Stuth-Wade writes: "We spend our first nine months comfortably submerged, following mother-rhythms, sleeping to the liquid sound of breathing and heartbeat. The sea of origin is forever in us. These paintings of Nassau, Western Ireland, and Texas are a remembrance of that and of a childhood spent roaming the Corpus Christi beaches, breathing fish-scented air, and taking it all for granted..." Since his first solo exhibition in 1971, at age 18, Bob Stuth-Wade has been a full-time artist. In addition to nine solo exhibitions at Valley House Gallery since 1991, his work has been exhibited at The Grace Museum in Abilene, Texas, and the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts in San Angelo, Texas. His work is in numerous public and private collections. The overall dimensions, including the ebonized walnut float frame, are 11 3/4 x 13 3/8 inches.

Palm

Located in Dallas, TX
"Palm" by Malou Flato is acrylic on paper on canvas, and measures 72 x 60 inches. Over the past forty years, Malou Flato’s paintings have focused on the Texas landscape—its native flowers, blooming cactus, diverse citizenry, and especially its precious water and abundant sky. Flato has a studio in Austin and another on her great-grandfather’s ranch on the southwestern shoulder of the Hill Country, in Edwards County. “Texas is my inspiration,” she says. “I have made my life here, and I would like to think that my art reflects the place I know best.” Malou Flato’s works can be seen in many public places in Texas and beyond. They enliven a border crossing...

"Milan Street" by Christopher Clark, Original Oil Painting, Italian Cityscape
By Christopher Clark
Located in Denver, CO
Christopher Clark's "Milan Street" is an original, hand made oil and acrylic painting that depicts a bustling city street with light streaming in. Christopher has been an artist since early childhood, when he would watch Bob Ross on PBS and mimic the famed oil painter’s art with crayons. He considers himself a self-educated artist, with his studies ranging from personal training with contemporary masters, to classical academic art technique, with much inspiration from 19th Century art and the Impressionist Movement. Christopher lived in Italy for a time, immersing himself in Italian culture and art, which continues to influence his painting. His fan base has grown considerably since his return to the US, gaining the attention of Lucasfilm and Marvel Fine Art, which both signed him as an officially licensed artist in 2016. Other clients include George Lucas, Major League Baseball, Louisville Slugger, and Fender Guitars. Christopher’s painting skills are not his only talent in the arts. He has won several national swing dance championship competitions, and also studies tango and blues dancing. He has played guitar since the age of 12, and during his time as lead guitarist for a rock band, he opened for Blue Oyster Cult and Eddie Money...
