This artwork titled "The Despatch" c.1985 in an oil painting on canvas by British artist Reginald John Mitchell, 1923-2018. It is signed at the lower left corner by the artist. The canvas size is 20 x 34 inches, framed size is 29.75 x 43.75 inches. Custom framed in a wooden gold frame, with fabric liner. It is in excellent condition, it has a minor restored scratch on the back of the canvas, not visible from the front, see picture #8. About the artist: Reginald John Mitchell was born February 17th 1923 in South East London, son of a postman. He spent most of his childhood drawing, he left school at 14 years old. He Joined the Navy as a boy telegrapher, spending 15 months in the training in the H.M.S Ganges, then a year in a light Cruiser in the battle of Atlantic. After that, 3 years in a motor torpedo boat, at Dover, Malta North Africa Sicily, Salerno and landing at Dodecanese. Then a period on a Greek minesweeper which was mined in the golf of Athens. After returning home in the U.K. he spent next year in various hospitals and finally being invalided from the service in 1946. He spent most of the next 21 years on British railways, as a locomotive fireman and later a driver. He left the railways in 1967 and turned professional artist, he was immediately very successful and recognized as a British post impressionist artist. His work is held in numerous collections in England and the U.S.

This artwork titled "Road to Commerce" c.1990 is an oil painting on canvas after American artist Gail Sherman Corbett, 1871-1952. It is signed at the lower left corner by another hand. The canvas size is 20 x 24 inches, framed is 28 x 32 inches.. Framed in a antique style frame. It is in excellent condition. About the artist: Gail Sherman Corbett, sculptor, painter and art teacher, was the daughter of Frederick Coe and Emma Jane (Ostrander) Sherman and was born in Syracuse, New York. Her father was descended from Philip Sherman of Dedham, Essex, England, who came, in 1633 to Roxbury, Massachusetts, and afterwards, with eighteen others, founded the town of Portsmouth and the Colony of Rhode Island. He was the Second Secretary of that colony. Corbett's mother was a descendant of Michael Dyckman, one of the framers of the New Amsterdam Charter in 1623. Gail Sherman was educated at the Syracuse High School and the Anne Brown School, New York. She began her studies in sculpture at the Art Students' League in New York under Augustus Saint Gaudens, George DeForest Brush and others, and was later a student at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. She was given her first large commission in 1901, and, between then and 1914, when her work was interrupted by the War, she executed many memorial tablets, portrait busts, bas-reliefs, sundials, fountains, and medals. Her work received a medal and mention at the Panama-Pacific Exhibition in San Francisco in 1915. Her best known groups are the Hamilton S. White Memorial, Syracuse, New York (1905), the Kirkpatrick Memorial Fountain, Syracuse (1908), and the bronze doors of the Municipal Building, Springfield, Massachusetts (1913). Miss Sherman was married at Syracuse, June 28, 1905, to Harvey Wiley Corbett, a New York architect. They had two children: Jean and John Maxwell Corbett. During 1915-1917, Mrs. Corbett gave her services to the Woman Suffrage Party, and in 1916-1917 she was Chairman of the Chelsea Branch of the Woman's Municipal League.
