John Baldessari:
It is hard to characterize John Baldessari's varied practice—which includes photomontage, artist’s books, prints, paintings, film, performance, and installation—except through his approach of good-humored irreverence. Baldessari is commonly associated with Conceptual or Minimalist art, though he has called this characterization “a little bit boring.” His two-dimensional works often incorporate found images, composed in layers or presented as distinct pieces with an element of surprise, like a brightly colored geometric shape in the place of a face or a starkly printed sardonic caption. Baldessari has demonstrated a lasting interest in language and semantics, articulating these concerns through the use of puns or the juxtaposition of seemingly unrelated images and words, as in his 1978 work Blasted Allegories. His self-referencing photomontages and use of text have been sources of inspiration for countless artists, including Cindy Sherman, David Salle, and Barbara Kruger. Baldessari identifies his own artistic lineage, saying, "I would prefer to go to the source with Duchamp rather than credit Warhol as an influence."

"Wonka Donuts" 46x38" Photographic arrangement of donuts on rag paper
By Candice CMC
Located in Southampton, NY
You have read about the extraordinary donut portraits by Candice CMC on social media world-wide and we are excited and proud to represent her work.
This one of a kind photo arrangement on 100% rag paper by Candice CMC measures 39x31" the Framed size is approx. 46x38". Candice creates her donut portraits from her original photographs of donuts. No software program of any kind is used in creating the portrait, Candice goes through the arduous task of looking through her photos to select just the right images with the correct texture, color and highlights that are needed for each area of the portrait. Nowadays, so many people are using programs to create images, it's nice to know that this artist is using her artistic talent to create these intricate realistic portraits.
The art was created to appear as a pop art image of hundreds of random donuts when viewed up close. What makes this art exciting is when the work is viewed through the camera on your phone, the very realistic portrait appears. Creating a great conversation piece for those who view it. Collectors come in the gallery and say, we love donuts and then we tell them to take a picture of it with their phone, they hold up their phone and we immediately hear Oh Wow!
Candice CMC has created iconic portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Einstein, Alfred E...
