Hole in the Wall Sculpture: Contemporary Mixed Media, Unframed

By Luke O'Sullivan

Located in Philadelphia, PA

This original piece by Luke O'Sullivan is made from wood that the artist has silkscreen printed onto with his original drawings and patterns, which he then cut and assembled into a three-dimensional, wall-hanging sculpture. The finished piece measures 14”h x 11.5”w x 4.25”d. About the Artwork O’Sullivan creates invented buildings, places, and objects describing unexplored worlds conjuring a sense of discovery and adventure. Rise and Shine represents a shift from the artist’s earlier work featuring structures, facades, and panoramic landscapes toward a more detailed approach. These new works depict encapsulated, floating environments devoid of humans. The sculptural objects are keepsakes or relics from these faraway places. Each piece plays with the shifting relationships between two and three dimensions, surface and underworld. O’Sullivan’s recent screen prints introduce color, imbuing these works with a certain levity and illustrative quality. The playful nature of O’Sullivan’s work draws from Nintendo games, maps, science fiction movies, and movie set design. Likening his process to a lego set...

By Dominique Teufen

Located in Zurich, CH

DOMINIQUE TEUFEN (*1975, Switzerland) Je te quitte maintenant de ma plume, mais jamais de mon coeur 2011 7 Photographs face-mounted to Acrylic (Diasec) 1x70/100cm, 2x 60/84cm, 2x 40/60cm, 2x30/45cm Total 84 x 193 x 3 cm (33 1/8 x 76 x 1 1/8 in.) Dominique Teufen was born in Davos Switzerland in 1975. After following a two years stone sculpting class in Zürich, she moved to Amsterdam and received her BA in Sculpture from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2002. In the following years she worked and exhibited in Melbourne, Zürich, London and New York. After moving back to Amsterdam, she attained her Master of Fine Art in 2010 at the Academy for Art and Design St. Joost in S’Hertogenbosch the Netherlands. Since 2011 she lives and works in Zürich and Amsterdam. With Teufen’s education in Sculpture and fine Arts, material-experiments make up an important part of her work. Curious and fascinated by photography, she investigates and engages in differ- ent processes and mechanisms before she takes her photographs. With her specific use of pho- tography, she not only examines the field of tension between two- and three dimensionality, but also explores the area where reality and illusion lose their specific definition and where different possible realities can be visualized. Teufen has participated in various solo and group exhibitions worldwide, including at the Chris- tophe Guye Galerie, Zürich, Kunsthalle Wil/St. Gallen as well as Kunstraum Aarau. Furthermore, Teufen has been exhibited with Thomas Ruff, Wolfgang Tillmans and Viviane Sassen, among others at NRW Forum in Düsseldorf, at Museum für Fotografie Berlin and Kunsthalle Darmstadt as part of the group exhibition ‘Bauhaus and Photography’. In connection with the HSBC Photogra- phy Award 2019, she was exhibited in the travelling exhibition of the two winners in Paris, Arles, Bordeaux and Metz. She has received numerous awards, including the Vfg. Nachwuchsförderpre- is der Fotografie 2013, the Lensculture Emerging Talent Award 2018 and the HSBC Photography Award 2019. – Art, Contemporary, Photography, Fine Art, Abstract, Landscape, Light, Black and White...

By Ben Young

Located in New York, NY

Ben Young’s sculpture fluidly blends glass, concrete, bronze, steel, and light to depict romantic and pensive imagery highlighting the fragility of our climate and its most precious resource – water. Born in Australia and raised in New Zealand, Young is an avid surfer and environmentalist, inspired by a lifetime on and around oceans, bays, and reefs, with an intimate understanding of the challenges our precious ecosystems face. Young’s thought-provoking sculpture shows great range, portraying the beauty and solitude of life on the ocean, haunting depths of the deep sea, and stunning and relaxing upside of island life. Water is many things to many people, which Young encapsulates brilliantly in his work, encompassing themes of sustainability throughout. Using concrete to create mountains, crevasses, sand bars, and cliffs, Young’s innovative use of materials is transportative. With hand-carved glass as his guiding medium, Young amplifies light and its relationship with water – our most sacred element – to create a glowing unity that people from around the world connect with on a personal level, whether they are beachside or in the Desert. Four Koa Wood Framed 18th C. Engravings from Captain Cook's 3rd Voyage Journal

By John Webber

Located in Alamo, CA

A grouping of four framed engravings of Hawaii, Tahiti, Tonga and Vancouver Island from the atlas of the official British Admiralty sanctioned journal of Captain Cook's 3rd Voyage entitled "A Voyage to the Pacific Ocean Undertaken by the Command of His Majesty, for Making Discoveries in the Northern Hemisphere", published upon completion of the voyage in London in 1784 by Strahan & Cadell. These engravings were made from drawings by John Webber (1752-1793), who was the artist on Captain James Cook's 3rd and final voyage of discovery. The set of engravings includes: "A Canoe of the Sandwich Islands, the Rowers Masked", Plate 65 in the atlas; "A Dance in Otaheite" (Tahiti), Plate 28; "King of the Friendly Islands" (Tonga), plate 20; "Inside of a House in Nootka Sound" (Canada), plate 42. These engravings are professionally framed in Koa wood, the same wood as was used to make the canoes of the ancient Hawaiians. Koa wood is legendary in Hawaii. Not only is this amazing wood native to Hawaii, but it is known for the deep rich colors and varied grain pattern. Koa has an honored heritage in Hawaii and is highly revered and sacred. The word “koa” means “warrior” in Hawaiian. The warriors of King Kamehameha the Great, created canoes and weapons from a wood plentiful on the Big Island of Hawaii. This wood became synonymous with the warriors themselves, and it became known as koa. These four engravings would make a wonderful grouping for a display of 2, 3 or 4 prints. They may be purchased separately or in groups on 1stDibs. Their listing Reference #'s are: LU117324682432, LU117324682022, LU117324684052 and LU117324684062. A discount is available for a grouping depending on the number of items included. Hawaii was discovered by Captain Cook (1728-1779) during this voyage. Hawaii was originally called The Sandwich Islands in honor of The Earl of Sandwich...

Bronze, Artist Proof. Sharon Loper creates transitory sculptures out of bronze, stone, and wood and views her work as landscapes of thought based on organic principles. As a classically educated, third-generation Rodin sculptor, Loper’s work is elongated and expressive. She seeks to sculpt an emotional experience rather than a physical reality. An award-winning sculptor, photographer, and printmaker, Sharon Loper developed her sculptural practice through two decades of study, both at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles and in private studio practice. At Otis, she worked with and learned from artists such as Charles White, Joseph Mugnaini...
