The history of Henkel-Harris starts in Winchester, Virginia. There, married couple Carroll and Mary Henkel and their friend John Harris signed a lease for a building and began handcrafting furniture in 1946. The trio worked together until Harris departed the business in 1956. Carroll spent time on the road, introducing their wood furnishings to retailers, while Mary oversaw the growing operations. Within a few years, Henkel-Harris had outgrown its manufacturing facilities. This led the Henkels to build a new facility in Winchester. The work was completed in 1963. The furniture maker continued to enjoy success until Carroll died in 1969. Mary, now the sole owner, expanded the business into the European market. To attract new employees, she offered to pay college tuition for those who wished to attend night school. Soon, she had a team of more than 90 carpenters and finishers working to meet the ever-increasing demand for Henkel-Harris pieces. Within two decades, the company had more than 260 employees. Following Mary's death, the Gum family assumed ownership of Henkel-Harris but kept the manufacturing processes that had made Henkel-Harris a trusted name in the American furniture market intact. Shop a variety of Henkel-Harris furniture on 1stDibs.

A Harry Winston diamond refers to jewelry designed by celebrated fine jewelry house Harry Winston Inc. Its founder, Harry Winston (1896–1978), is regarded as the “King of Diamonds” and the “Jeweler to the Stars” as one of the first to recognize the branding power of lending glitzy earrings, necklaces and other fine jewelry for red-carpet events. Winston was renowned for his eye for the finest of gemstones and the ability to design pieces in order to best flaunt their natural dazzle. He regularly showed off his collection in touring exhibitions, such as the 1949 “Court of Jewels,” which featured the Hope diamond. Shop a collection of vintage and modern Harry Winston diamond rings from some of the world’s top jewelers on 1stDibs.

Whether or not a Harry Bertoia chair is comfortable really comes down to a matter of personal preference, but there are a lot of positive reviews pertaining to how comfortable the Italian-born American designer’s seating is. Among furniture aficionados he is known for the wire-lattice Diamond chair (and its variants such as the tall-backed Bird chair) designed for Knoll Inc. and first released in 1952. To identify Harry Winston jewelry, look for the maker's marks, which will usually appear on an interior surface on a ring or bracelet or on the back of a pendant or earrings. Authentic pieces typically bear either the initial HW inside of a large W or the name Winston. You should also see markings that represent the metal content. Stamps should be clear and easy to read. A certified appraiser or experienced jeweler can also assist with identifications. Shop a range of Harry Winston jewelry on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022

To clean Henkel Harris furniture, the manufacturer recommends the use of a soft cloth. You can remove surface dust with a dry cloth or dampen it with cool water to wipe away tougher messes. To maintain your piece, Henkel Harris recommends that you apply its own Guardsman polish periodically after cleaning. On 1stDibs, explore a collection of Henkel Harris furniture.
  • 1stDibs ExpertFebruary 1, 2024

Yes, some pieces are real Dior dresses in the film Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris. The movie's costume designer, Jenny Beavan, arranged to borrow several Christian Dior dresses from the French luxury fashion house. Others she recreated using original Dior designs, and a few she devised herself, drawing inspiration from Dior dresses. On 1stDibs, shop a selection of Christian Dior dresses and other apparel.
  • 1stDibs ExpertOctober 24, 2024
No one can say for certain how much the pink diamond ring by Harry Winston is worth today. However, in 2018, the ring bearing the 18.96-carat pink diamond sold for $50.3 million at auction. At the time, the sale established a new record per carat selling price for pink diamonds. Called the Winston Pink Legacy, the gemstone was only the fourth fancy pink diamond ever to be auctioned by the luxury jewelry maker. On 1stDibs, find a wide range of Harry Winston jewelry.
  • 1stDibs ExpertOctober 7, 2024
The answer to whether it is a real Dior dress in Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris depends on which dress you mean. In the 2022 film starring Lesley Manville, some of the dresses were real dresses that costume designer Jenny Beavan borrowed from the House of Dior. Others were replicas of authentic dresses that she created herself, and a few were original designs inspired by Dior. Find a variety of Dior dresses on 1stDibs.
