Meiji Lacquer Box

A spectacular Japanese lacquer calligraphy box, finely decorated with elegant floral motifs executed in maki-e, dating to the late Meiji period (late 19th–early 20th century).

This is a good papier mâché, rectangular shaped black lacquered lidded box, hand enameled and gilded, made in Japan during the 19th century, early Meiji period, circa 1875.
