Sean Sullivan is an NYC graffiti artist whose work is a prime example of street art culture. Sullivan uses mixed media spray paint on canvas. Sullivan didn't look up to athletes or movie stars growing up. He didn't fantasize about being an astronaut or a doctor. He didn't want to live in a house in the woods riding his bike. Sullivan fantasized about scaling gates to paint the tunnels. He looked up to guys like Tracy 168 and Futura. He wanted to live under the train tracks that showed him every morning the beautiful layups and masterpieces painted on the sides of the 4 trains. Sullivan didn't live a typical life in NYC. He had the best of both worlds. He has been shot, run over by cabbies, had the Feds investigate him, had dinners with mayors, been to private schools with the rich and famous and public school with the forgotten. Sullivan wandered the streets of the grimmest parts of the city and broke bread on the Upper Eastside. He is a real New Yorker. His family has been here for four generations. He's painted and learned from some real masters. Everything he does now comes from his experiences, travels and battles of coming from the greatest city in the world. Sullivan is from New York. His pieces reflect the time and experiences he's going through and have gone through. His work is called Layer Cake due to his fascination with the works of art layered over and over each other all over NYC. The billboards, the subway advertisements and the tunnels of overlapping fame-seeking artists.
