Portrait of a Lady
Oil on canvas
Image size: 29 inches x 24 inches
Size including frame: 35½ inches x 30½ inches
A well-executed portrait of a lady circle of Sir Godfrey Kneller in its rare, original period silver gilt frame. Not many frames of this age survive with any of the silver gilt intact, so this is a rare find. The subject, posed without her wig in the undressed fashion of the day, wears a red robe held in place by jewelled clasp. Her dress, jewel and bearing indicate this is a lady of some standing. The portrait has clearly been painted by an artist of great ability who has been influenced by Sir Godfrey Kneller and this portrait truly captures the English Baroque period...
